Acne scarring(indentations usually) is a lot worse since its much more difficult to treat. By dark purple marks I imagine you mean hyperpigmentation. This can be treated with hydroquinone or something similar prescribed by the dermatologist.

Acne scars are worse of course. These indentations last your entire life, and are true scars. Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation takes anywhere from 3 months - 2 years to fade, depending how deep or how severe the original lesion was.
