Hi! This summer I stopped using benzoyl peroxide cold turkey(I did not know that I had to gradually decrease theapplication). As a result I gotsmall bumps(both whiteheads and blackheads)literallyall over my face, especially on my forehead. My skin has never been this bad, and my skin was in a much better condition even before I started using the BP for 1,5 years ago.How long will it take for them to go away, and does anyonehave some tips on how the bumps can fade away faster?

I think this is happening to me too. I decreased application and now I'm getting small bumps on my nose and around the corner of my mouth. This may just be the moisturizer but I'm not sure.

I used BP for about ten years, the acnefree regimen. Then I decided to just use the BP cleanser and after weening myself off I realized that the tone and lotion were the cause of me getting really bad cyst ones.

I've had times where I want to use something more gentle instead of the BP cleanser, and everytime I have, the same thing that's happening to you happens to me...instead of getting one once in a while on my forehead, I would get a whole patch of tiny bumps, AND, they NEVER went away even a month later, until I went back on the BP.

It's BS. I can't win. it's just a matter of what kind of pimples I want. I hate my face so much. I'm 33 and I still get new white heads every single day, hate it so much. my stupid ugly face.

So have you tried to use the bp again to help it?

Unfortunately, benzoyl peroxides main mechanism of action is to kill the p. acne bacteria, so when you stop using it, especially cold turkey, you will likely experience the acne will come back if it was working while you were on it.

I can't say if they'll go away with out any treatment, but if you want ideasto try, a salicylic acid wash may break up the clogs. Also, you could try some diluted apple cider vinegar, lots of people on the boards have had success with this. ACV, is antibacterial like BP and also like BP is comedolytic.

You say your skin was better before BP, acne aside, long term use of BP has been negated by the fact it is a strong oxidising agent. Oxidative stress on the skin promotes aging, like sitting in the sun would without sunscreen. So while it' effective for acne it might be a good think long term that you try something else now anyways. 🙂
