So recently, I discovered that I was allergic to the BP, which is kinda of weird because when I first started using it, I was fine. But about 2 months in, I started waking up with really swollen eyes and red, burning, itchy skin. Now my acne has gotten significantly worse (I think it's hormonal acne) and I have no idea what to do. I saw a dermatologist before I got onto the regimen, and nothing that was prescribed me work. Any advice?
I'm currently trying the Dermalogica Clear Start, but I'm thinking about going on Spironolactone... Will a derm prescribe me this if I ask?
I unfortunately experienced this the hard way as well. I had a horrible reaction with Epiduo and it was due to the BP that was in it. So, I feel your pain on that. It was awful.
Doesn't Spironolactone lower your blood pressure? I would check with your doctor if you're considering that. If you already have low blood pressure it might lead to trouble.
Now, I don't know what type of acne you are experiencing (cystic, comedonal, non-comedonal, etc) but I can wholeheartedly tell you that gentle is the way to go. Choose your cleansers, exfoliating products, and moisturizers that are for your skin-type and have non-irritating ingredients and no fragrances. I believe irritation is the main cause of acne. A lot of the products on the shelves these days contain so many irritants that our skin reacts by breaking out. Stay simple, gentle, and patient and you should be fine. I know it sucks right now but you'll get over the hump and your skin will start looking clear and fresh again. Hang in there!

My derm prescribed spiro because I asked. Before jumping on that train though, there are so many topicals you could try such as retinoids. Also, looking at your diet and lifestyle could prove worthwhile . We all feel your pain so don't feel alone.
