Lumps On Gums Below Cystic Acne

Hello,

I have pretty mild acne, I mean.. maybe mild - moderate on my breakouts. I think online people seem to write off people with what I have, but it can still affect confidence just like severe acne would.

Basically, there are some times I will go a few days, maybe a week without having a single spot, but blemishes or red marks from the old ones. But then I have ALWAYS (since like 16) had consistent breakouts every few weeks. They are always cystic, meaning that I'll feel it coming before it actually fully shows. A lump will appear and it'll become more and more inflamed, until it's a whitehead, I'll pop it, TCP and some cream and it'll dry out, heal and be a red mark a few days later.

When I do get breakouts. There are normally a number of these. Sometimes 1 or 2, sometimes 4 or 5. Regardless, it messes with my confidence and I've actually skipped events because of it. So as it's legitimately affecting my life, I am thinking of taking a serious necessity to get rid of the problem once and for all. (accutane, i'll get to that after)

But my main issue is that I have little lumps in my gums where the acne always seems to come from (my chin and mouth area, very rarely anywhere else) .. these little lumps come up right when I get my breakouts, and they protrude enough for me to notice them a lot when I move my tongue onto them. My main question from this post it, does anyone else seem to have this, or is related in any way? I mean if there is bacteria or puss in my gums and they are slowly being pushed up onto the surface onto my skin, maybe that'd be a cause for the cystic whiteheads I get in that area?

Another question I have is I've been thinking of going on accutane. I'm about to schedule an appointment with a dermatologist and I'm gonna see what they think about me going on a low dose. What do you guys think? Is there a high success rate for that?

My only problem is that if i get an appointment and i'm clear on that day, my dermatologist will think i'm delusional or vain as hell lol.

Let me know what you guys think! Thanks.

Hi there, I personally haven't heard of lumps on gums contributing to cystic acne, however not to say they aren't correlated. Perhaps its a reaction to toothpaste, not sure? With regards to accutane and dermatologist appointment- take a photo when your acne flares up and tell them your situation. They will be the decider of how much accutane you should take. From what you have explained here 20mg/day may be a ideal amount and i have seen people have a lot of success on this dosage; however this is something that you should talk to your dermatologist about. Lastly if your not happy with your derm, change; I know they are expensive etc however its worth getting good advice, and don't be afraid to ask them lots of questions! All the best
