I've been vitamin D deficient for years now. When it first came to my doctor's attention through blood tests, I was given a Rx strength VitD supp, and that's when I first began having severe, painful cystic acne. Beforehand, I was sensitive to taking a multivitamin, which gave me some mild, regular acne. The Rx VitD supp conincided with some hypothyroid problems, for which I took synthroid for about 8 months. I discontinued the synthroid years ago, but the VitD problem has continued to plague me.
I have to avoid all supplemented and natural foods containing VitD-- milk, cereal, eggs, granola bars, fortified bread etc.-- and it is wearing on my ability to be properly nourished. I've just got another blood test coming up with slightly elevated but regular thyroid levels, but, of course, a severe VitD deficiency. My doctor wants me to take an 8 week course of prescription VitD to help with my fatigue, but that amount would make my face disfigured for months to come as it is stored in your fat cells.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? I have a real problem with fatigue and sleep, so I've no doubt that the VitD would help (it has been three years of deficiency) but right now I can only control it by limiting my consumption. I slip up every once in a while and a small amount means I'm at the derm asking for an injection on a cyst that won't go away or taking a short course of antibiotics.
VitD is a prohormone, apparently. Is there anything that could make its digestion easier for my body?
I used to mess with vitamins until I realized they weren't that effective and probably caused more acne. They're also dangerous.
If you want your vitamins and minerals, organic food is the way to go. If it's not organic, then it's missing nutrients. I healed my gut and my acne by going natural and healing through diet. As for antibiotics, don't take them. They kill off your good bacteria and make your digestive system worse.
Too many vitamins can stress the body out. For example.. If you take more than the daily amount of a vitamin, more likely than not, your body will end up excreting it somehow whether it be through urine, feces or sweat. It can be very hard on your liver and kidneys. That is why I will only take up to 50 percent the daily dose. I get the rest through food! Cheers
