Been a longtime stalker of this site, you've all provided me with endless advice with my acne. Just could do with some help right now
2/3 months ago I had pretty good skin, by that I mean a spot once every 1.5 weeks. I have a picking compulsion oops, (that's a different matter) but my routine handled it. Cleanse and Polish (Liz Earle), and a clay+salicylic wash (clean and clear). I can't even recall any other products I used, I honestly can't.
Around 5 weeks ago, a few days before my exams, I noticed 2 cystic type lumps on my right temple. I was under a lot of stress and anxiety, plus being due on didn't help. I picked and they scabbed and healed a week and a half later, red marks remain.
So typical me overreacted. After hearing the benfits of COCONUT OIL i decided to try the ocm. Great for a week, then slowly things got progressively worse. The next week, 2 more, forehead area, one in which has left HYPOpigmentation, with surrounding HYPERpigmentation, lovely I know. At this point I was freaking out, so I played with my routine AGAIN.
. I went to the other extreme, lemon juice. Any pimples I popped, or basically any broken skin, scabbed or became inflamed, looking worse than before (I'm dealing with 3 scabs like that currently).
So back to now, my routine now consists of) am- salicylic foam cleanse, aloe gel (considering dropping this), and moisturiser with jojoba oil. Pm- my trusty clay wash, aloe, la roche posay effaclar duo, then sudocrem on inflammation. Exfoliation is done 3 times a week, with glycolic/clay masks regularly.
I'm currently sat with a hot compress on a pimple, which I popped yesterday, I thought properly seeing as I heard the noise and it was a solid mass extracted. However it is now inflamed and tender, with pink/red skin. It's rather large. With AF being any day now, I'm guessing this has added to any inflammation.
My skin has calmed down, it's all healing now, I'm posting, well to share my story, as well as to ask wether after using coconut oil, it would be expected to purge when using chemical exfoliants? I hope this is the case, as it will subside eventually. I'm hoping it'll calm down so so badly, like I can't really look at myself with no makeup on right now.
I want to warn people that overpowering your skin, or messing around with routines sometimes does more harm than good, and to not do what I did and overreact with when one cyst occurs. Wow okay that's done, sorry for boring you all
I think that coconut oil can actually clog your pores and cause even more acne to occur. When using oils you need to stay vigilant and find the right one that works for your skin type.
With that being said, changing up your routine can also cause new flare ups and it is hard to know which caused more pimples because you did too many new things at the same time. Lemon juice can help but it is really harsh on the skin when used alone. You have to add it to a mixture, like a facial mask or hydrating cream.
Stress and anxiety you had experienced may have been the cause to your cysts on your temples because it does it to me too. Stick with your normal skin routine, make sure you wash your face morning and night. Pure Aloe Vera gel has helped my skin greatly. With time it will also heal hyperpigmentation from old acne.
I think you should apply ice to your inflamed cyst to calm the swelling. Heat will actually make things worse, but I know your intention was to bring it to a head to pop it. So now that the infection is extracted, try the ice !
