Effectiveness Of Antibiotics? Input Needed

Hello everyone!

My doctor prescribed me doxycycline for my acne which she diagnosed as mild/moderate (she said it was a 3...idk what scale she used). I'm hesitant to take it as i'm nervous the results will be temporary. The reason being is that last August i took minocycline for 2 months (not the 3 I was supposed, oops) and while I was on the antibiotic my acne cleared all up and it was great, but then once I went off of it, about 2 weeks later, my acne came back. So I am kinda nervous/sceptical that this is whats going to happen again this time around. I don't want to take antibiotics if they are going to only work while I'm on it, its not like I can take them my whole life.

So I guess my question is, what do you guys think? Should I take it or not? Have any of you guys ever taken doxy?

As a side note that may help with your input: i went of birth control about 1 year and 4 months ago, and my periods JUST started being regular again, so part of me is also hoping that now that they are (hopefully) going to start being regular again, my hormones and skin will clear? (doubt it but hey a girl can hope)

Thanks guys! :)

I have a blog on antibiotics and acne! I think you should read it. I would re commend you not to take it. It didn't not work well for me.. However everyone's experience is different! Good luck!

Antibiotics are never an effective stand alone treatment for acne so I'm confused why derms still insist on using it as a first line of defense. It can also mess with your digestion and that is a FACT. I would suggest going back to your derm and having hem prescribe a topical like a retinoid and an anti microbial.

In my not so expert opinion, I think antibiotics are kind of a joke. It is like a temporary fix. Doctors prescribe antibiotics for acne and then you use up your prescription, your acne is gone, it comes back, you go back to the doctors, spend more money and more and more. It's a vicious cycle that makes the human race a slave. It's quite sad. I'm sorry for sounding so grim but the pharmaceutical companies are just money hungry pigs. Don't feed into their bullsh**. There are plenty of different/better alternatives. I hope this helps in some way that doesn't leave you feeling hopeless :/ cheers

Thanks for your input guys! I agree with all of you about the antibiotics, and I think i'm gonna not take them. I have also stopped taking my vitamins (b12) because I read that they can cause acne, so we shall see. My skin has calmed down, I only have maybe 5 pimples which are all almost healed. Hopefully everything will even itself out on its own!
