I am looking to treat red spots and discolored marks left over from acne and to also prevent new acne from developing

Below are the products I have and I am looking for suggestions on a possible regimen using them.

Glycolic 10% Lotion

Glycoic 8% Toner

Electronic Macro Exfoliator Device

Meladerm

Rodan + Fields "Unblemish" 3 piece kit

  • 3% sulfur wash/cleanser
  • Clarifying toner
  • Dual action 2.5% benzoyl peroxide

Rodan + Fields "Reverse" 4 Piece Kit

  • Deep exfoliating wash
  • Brightening toner (salicylic acid, licorice, kojic acid)
  • Retinol formula
  • vitamin c complex

I've also had 1 Vbeam treatment so far

One possible regimen I see here is:

Morning:

-3% Sulfur wash (wash gently for 10 seconds. Rinse gently. wait 10 minutes for skin to dry)

-apply a noncomedogenic moisturizer over the top of this

Evening:

-Deep exfoliating wash (wash gently for 10 seconds. Rinse gently. wait 10 minutes for skin to dry)

-Apply 2.5% BP (wait 10-15 minutes for skin to dry)

-apply a noncomedogenic moisturizer over the top of this

Do all this as gently as possible!

Every other evening: mix some of your 10% glycolic acid lotion with your moisturizer and apply (after BP) to help speed up fading of red marks. 10% glycolic acid is a potent formula (basically gives you a mild chemical peel) but when diluted is gentle enough for frequent use.

The sulfur wash should help with acne, so I don't recommend using BP at the same time, as I think this might be too harsh.

Just be careful about incorporating too many products and steps at once. Too many acne treatments can do more harm than good. Personally I think you'd be better off with just a basic cleanser.

Good luck with whatever you decide! :)

Eventually your skin should be able to tolerate 10% glycolic acid (diluted) every day. You could also try applying the diluted 10% glycolic acid in the morning instead of in the evening but my guess is this would be too harsh used with the sulfur wash but you could try it and see. PIH is also my son's main issue and glycolic acid has been working wonders on his skin!

I actually have 10% Glycolic acid from a brand called "Reversa" or "Reversa Soothing Lotion"

I have used it a bit, but wasn't sure if it would help PIH or discolored marks, but I may start using it long term. Is there a shelf life on these products? I've had it for quite a while

The Acne.Org products do have an expiration date, usually roughly 2 years after the purchase date, if this gives you a guideline. But I've used products that are 3 and 4 years old with great results.

Thank you for the help. I think I will start using the 10% Glycolic acid consistently. Do you think I will see any improvements in "PIE"/red marks in a couple of weeks? I'm assuming the Glycolic acid removes the top layer of the skin, and then new skin forms?

Give it a good month of consistent use to see improvement...of course everyone's skin is different...but that's about how long it took before we noticed a difference with my son's skin. He's been using 10% glycolic acid for about 4 months and now the skin on his forehead is near perfect where you can hardly tell he had acne here! His cheeks broke out later and still have lots of purplish PIH from borderline cystic acne, but little by little it's getting better.
