Well, I am one of those unfortunate examples of someone who had fabulous results from Accutane that only lasted 4 months post treatment. My acne is back and I am so sad about it. I'm learning to kind of accept I have it again but it's taken me three months to accept it So my question is, I have an appointment on Friday to talk about possibly trying a second round before my skin starts to get worse (already getting some superficial (hopefully) scarring all around my mouth and chin). However I want to try and find some reasons for this incessant, persistent acne and want to know any underlying issues before starting my second treatment so once I am done I can focus on my issues to hopefully finish this battle of acne I have been dealing with for nearly 12 years. So I really think I have a vitamin D deficiency, because I very often break out in the winter. However, I have been taking Vitamin D supplements for over two months and although it has helped, a bit, my acne is no where near done. I also want to check my Thyroid levels, I used to have severe hypothyroidism when I was younger but it resolved itself for several years, so I would like to make sure it's still okay. In relation to a thyroid test, I want to have my hormone levels checked just to see if my levels are off. I need some real experts now to give my tips as the whether or not these tests should be run. Also what other tests should I consider. I am really wanting to get to the core of this awful disease, I need to be done with this battle once and for all. Any help is appreciated!! Truly! I will get my insurance March 1st so I'm hoping when I go to get my blood work for Accutane I can also have some other panels run. I am not on birth control right now but will be in a few weeks (have to if I want to start Accutane... I know the drill) Anyways thanks so much in advance Remember to stay strong, stay happy, and this too shall pass.

It should also be mentioned that I eat super duper healthy! I know someone will bring that up and I have NO concerns that mine is diet related. I haven't eating bread/gluten/yeast for over a year now, I eat VERY little dairy like maybe a teaspoon of half and half two to three times a day, I eat TONS of vegetables (carrots, asparagus, lettuce, celery, mushrooms, avocado (EVERYDAY, I love them) and a decent amount of fruits. I eat grapes, blueberries, apples the most. I drink tons of water and recently (last month or so) been drinking green tea.

Maybe look into trying a live blood analysis! Different from your standard blood tests. I haven't had one yet, but I'm making an appointment this week.

Apparently it can tell you a number of things a standard blood test can't, including: whether your body is absorbing nutrients properly, presence of bacteria, yeast etc in your blood, what's going on with your immune system etc

Heres a link to some of the things that you can find out through this analysis: http://www.livebloodtest.com/live-analysis/what-do-you-get-to-see.html

If anyone has gotten one of these done before to get at the root cause of their acne, would love to hear your experience,

Wow, that test looks fascinating! Thanks for your input Veronikavanquish :) I will chat with my Dr. tomorrow about some tests and see what her thoughts are and hopefully have some helpful info to share!
