Hello All,

So I guess I'll just jump into it: today is my first day of using minimal products on my skin!

I'm going to attempt to do an edited version of the "caveman regimen". My new regimen involves putting aside all of my chemical face washes, lotions, soaps, and makeup... well, for the most part. As of right now, I have a bright red spot that will most likely scar (sigh) and a small blemish right smack on the center of my chin that I am covering with a very light foundation. Other than that, I am not going to be wearing ANY makeup whatsoever.... and I'm terrified. I've read so many success stories where people have stopped using everything. I probably won't completely stop, but here is what I plan on doing:

  • Only wearing makeup on the specific spots I'm trying to cover. No full coverage.
  • Once my "problem" areas heal a little, I'll go au naturale.
  • Water will replace my face washes. A few splashes in the morning and when I shower.
  • I'll probably use my Cetaphil DailyAdvance Lotion for my dry skin.

I already exercise regularly and eat healthy. So I'm hoping that this will help my skin recover from years of damaging chemicals and abuse. I expect to hit some road bumps, but overall, I'm excited to see the results (good or bad).

Has anyone tried minimizing their regimen to just water? If so, how has it worked out so far? Any tips or suggestions?

If anyone would like to start this up with me, that would be awesome to keep entries on here with you all and see our progress!

I done the caveman regimen for about 3-5 weeks, it totally clear my acne, i only had like 3 or 4 zits, i showered every 2 days. If you have a few zits like i did it would be effective but if your have alot i would stay away and find a better solution. You look like a lovely lady, you should check out this website MUAC , they have very affected chemical peels that you can do at home, very easy and simple, i tried them so has my lovely mama, she had hormonal acne and it was really bad. She tried the lactic acid peel about 4 times and by the 2 peel her skin just looked amazing, and by the 4 her acne and scacrs where gone. It took about 5 weeks or so ; a peel every week. Your choice thoe, theres a good blog called TheLoveVitamin Tracy (BloggersName) did the caveman regimen and so many others as well, she wrote about her experience and how it was working out for her and her result her really amazing. Go and check it out, it might help you with what your looking for. ^.^

I Hope in some way i was helpful.
I would love to hear about and see your results ^.^

PEACE

Thanks for the response!

I have very few blemishes at any given time... maybe two or three at once. I just feel like my body needs a break. In doing so, I'm going to give my skin a break too!

I'm hoping to have the same fabulous results you've experienced! If you have any suggestions for me, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks again

I would suggest you to use something natural like honey or plain yogurt to cleanse your face day and night. Both of them are just wonderful, they really help your skin out. There both anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, and they deep clean the pores. I personal use honey and yogurt to cleanse my face and as a face mask, and they had made my face so much better. Used tea tree oil for those few blemishes you have, it really works better than anything else.

You say you want to give your body a break, drink green tea, it has lots of antioxidants. It will definitely detox your body and make it feel more clean. It will also help keep your hormones in check, if your dealing with hormonal problems. Eat your vegetables and get plenty of sleep, and dont forget drinking lots of water.

Try this for 4 days (If it dosent help out then i have failed you )
Washing face with honey or yogurt ( It by it self will clean your skin, and moisturize )
At night use tea tree oil on the few blemishes ( It might sting abit, just daq a q-tip on it, that way you dont irritate your skin cause it is strong )

Thanks for all the advice!

It has been 3 days since I stopped using my regular face washes, lotions, etc. and my skin seems to be liking it!

I actually did dab a little tea tree oil on a blemish yesterday, and it went down a lot overnight. So I may hang on to that trick during this experiment. I've tried honey before, but it doesn't seem to do anything... it actually makes my jawline itchy. I don't have a honey or bee allergy, so not sure what causes that.

I'll keep at it and update this post in a few days. Maybe at the end of the week!

good luck! tea tree oil is the best. splashing with some sea salt (esp dead sea salt) dissolved in water can also be good for the skin if you are trying to minimise chemicals (ever notice how nice your skin looks after some time at the beach?)

Okay, so it's been a couple of weeks since starting the "minimal products" experiment. My skin seemed to like it for the first week or so, and then I broke out after that. I tried to just apply tea tree oil to the blemishes, but it seemed to lose it's effect. I also noticed that maybe my blemishes were being caused by skin build up...

So, now, I've switched to Burt's Bee's Honey and Shea Sugar Scrub, Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree Castile liquid soap, the occasional dab of tea tree oil, and Cetaphil Daily Advance Lotion. I use the Sugar Scrub every couple of days, and Dr. Bronner's soap on the nights I don't use the scrub. My skin seems to like the scrub... it moisturizes AND leaves my skin smooth and fresh. And it has minimal ingredients!

I've also been taking an iron supplement for a week now. I've read good things about acne sufferers who incorporate iron tablets into their routines.

I'll see how this goes for a month or so since it takes time for things to kick in and regulate... So far so good! (minus a pimple between my eyebrows... it appeared after a weekend of wearing sunglasses. Friction from the frames I suppose... sigh).
