Cleaning Skin After Exercise

I wash my skin every morning and night with aveeno clear complexion cleanser and have just started the acv toner routine (1/3 ACV, 2/3 bottled water(not sure how well it works yet, breaking out pretty bad on 4th day)) and then follow with aveeno clear complexion moisturizer. I usually work out about an hour after I wake up and tend to work out for about three hours. I had been wiping my face down with a cleansing wipe after exercising and then hopping in the shower and hoping the wipe and steam from the shower would clean my face good and then I would follow up with aveeno clear complexion moisturizer.

I know I should wash my face morning and night but how should I care for it after a workout to make sure I am not over drying and over washing my face? Any input is greatly appreciated! Thank you

Hi Emily...

You're absolutely right that washing too many times can be overly drying and potentially irritating to acne-prone skin. Since you work out not long after getting up in the morning, I would hold off on your a.m. skin-care routine until after your workout and shower.

Hope this is helpful! :)

Hi DeLovely! Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about just waiting until after my workout to wash my face but for some reason my face is always so oily when I wake up and I can't wait to wash it! I can't imagine what would happen to my face if I started out with it all oily and then added sweat to the mixture lol

I was thinking of maybe getting a very mild cleanser to wash in the morning and after a workout and then just cleansing with a stronger one before bed. I just hate feeling like I'm completely drying my skin out washing it so much during the day.

Actually, I just re-read your original post and for some reason I thought you were using the Aveeno cleanser when you wake up and after your shower, plus at night...my bad. If you're using the cleanser twice a day and wiping in between, that's fine. My skin is combination oily-dry, so cleansers dry out my skin while at the same time signal my body to make more oil. At present, my skin-care plan is warm water and the Acne.Org moisturizer.

I also take hemp-seed oil supplements for oil control (about 6 weeks now) and I've seen an improvement...my skin is less oily where I don't need to blot my forehead with paper towels midday anymore. Some people have had success managing oil control with Vitamin A, such as cod liver oil supplements. Plenty of threads on here that offer suggestions on managing oil control through dietary supplements. Have a look! :) I agree, that morning oily skin is no fun!
