So I went to my first dermatologist appointment, it was with a physician assistant since they were booked and I needed this done asap. I was in the room for maximum 10 minutes and sent on my way.
My question is, is this how all dermatologist appointments are...? I payed 50 copay and I saw they charged around $300 to my insurance. The PA didn't even ask about any history of my acne or anything, I was hoping she would offer me a cortisone shot after they drained my cyst. She gave me ziana gel and that is it.
I am thinking of changing dermatologists, since I was hoping it would be a little better. What are your guys thoughts?
Also am I able to ask my dermatologist for a cortisone shot ( I dont my paying, maybe my insurance even covers it) , or do they frown upon patients asking for those?
tl;dr
-went to derm
-there for 5 -10 minutes
-minimum talking
-billed and sent on my way lol
Hey trenbrah,
That sounds like bad bedside manner... Man, sorry she treated you like that! I definitely think you should find a different derm, especially if you want to do some kind of long-term treatment. She should treat you with some compassion. At least talk to you about your skin and how you want to approach it.
Here's a little story: I called my insurance to find a preferred dermatologist under my plan, called the office, and made an appointment. Then hopped on the internet to look up the doctor, just to see what I could see, and she had baaaad reviews. It sounds like she could have been your derm! Lots of bad reviews, and I wasn't about to wait a month and a half, pay a bunch of money, haul my butt down to her office, and be disappointed. So I found a derm with awesome reviews (still a preferred provider), went to see him, and he was awesome!
Take internet reviews with a grain of salt, but they can be really helpful for this sort of thing. And having a caring doctor is such a good feeling, especially with something as distressing as acne.
I hope it works out!
PS just noticed you said it was a PA and not a derm. Still, find someone else!
