So my acne is officially at it's worst. I'm on my 5th week of the regimen right now and I don't know what to do. I want to continue and see what may happen but my skin is absolutely horrible. I have very hormonal acne. I'm a 16 year old female in case that helps. I don't get acne on my forehead or nose t all but my cheeks and jawline and neck are HORRIBLE. I don't consume any meat or dairy (I'm vegan) and I stay away from processed foods as much as possible and I don't drink any sugary beverages, in fact I ONLY drink green tea or water. I've tried the Oil Cleansing Method which didn't work, The regimen so far isn't really working for me (but I'm going to continue if you all think I should) I've tried a few nuetrogena products, yes to tomatoes, I was going to a dermatologist and using Phisohex, I've used epiduo, I've used retin-a. I've tried many other things as well and NOTHING seems to help. I drink apple cider vinegar too and that hasn't done anything either. I want to say I literally have about 60-70 zits on each cheek and a bunch of little tiny bumps in between those Someone PLEASE give me some advice, as my skin is doing very badly and I'm so desperate at this point.Let me know if I should keep to the regimen, I don't know if I should be seeing results by now because this is my 5th week, but I don't want to keep wasting money ordering it if it isn't ever going to work with me.
Thanks
You have to give the regimen 3-4 months before declaring it a failure. Also, if your acne is truly hormonal, topicals should not be your first line of defense. Talk to your derm or gyno about :
birth control
spiro
It may be helpful to do blood tests during your period to test hormones
ya, it definitely requires patience and tolerance. In my case, after 3 weeks into regime I had worst break out ever and I continued the regime with strong determination. After 2 months, my acne all cleared. But scars remained.
Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen.
If your acne is truly hormonal you would benefit from birth control pills or herbs like evening primrose oil. They're lots of others out there that you can read about in the holistic section of the site (if you're into holistic things). See a gynaecologist if you really think your acne is hormonal.
The regimen takes a long time to work. I tried it a few years ago and it took 2 months before I saw anything other than dryness. It was the only thing that kept me clear for a little while before accutane. Stick with it for at least another month before you decide you're gonna quit.
Could be folliculitis , that's what I had for years and it never responded well to any acne treatment. When I treated it as folliculitis (caused by staph bacteria) I learned that hibiclens (dexidin 4 in canada) was a good cleanser for staph, and I had my doctor prescribe 2 weeks of bactrim ds antibiotic (septra ds sulfatrim ds, same thing) . I continue to use the cleanser twice a day, no more moisturizer, I can say this has done it for me , zero spots for like 6 months, and I used to get pretty bad breakouts. The doctor can test your puss to see if it's acne bacteria or staph bacteria. But if it isn't responding to everything you've tried, maybe check for staph folliculitis
Hey,
Everyone is different but I can tell you from my own experience I guess...
I started getting bad acne around 15 or 16, always hormonal, I was prescribed birth control at every dr's appointment (and I did try two types - with HORRID results - both claimed to be "low dose" and made me completely crazy and uncontrollably emotional). So that no longer was an option in my eyes (although it may work for you - don't discount it just because of my post).
I have been vegetarian for 13 years and was vegan for 1 full year, last year. (I felt amazing for that year, btw!) I take a B12 vitamin, as well as D in the wintertime only. I wish I'd known about flax seed oil as a teenager. You should consult your doctor before trying it, but it supposedly naturally regulates the hormone cycle and of course the omega 3's help a ton with the regeneration of your skin, healing breakouts. I definitely feel like my face now produces more oil, at 26 years old (and still vegetarian, mostly vegan) I do get some breakouts around the time of my period but they are not painful and severe like they used to be. I have found my emotional well being is more balanced as well, I am feeling happier, as depression has been an issue with me since my teens, due to the acne. I have only noticed a difference in my mood/ attitude since I started taking the cold pressed, bottled flax seed oil.
One other thing I was prescribed that did work for me, was an antibiotic called Apo-Minocyclin. I had to go on and off of it though, as after about 2-3 weeks of taking it religiously, it causes stomach pain and digestive problems. But for a skin-clear boost, it is definitely a good option that I will continue to use if my acne worsens again.
Hope some of that helps!
Update: I'm now on my 7th week of the regimen. I feel like my face is kind of clearing up? But I really can't tell. I am however breaking out super horribly around my mouth and my chin and jawline. Also my entire neck feels like sandpaper, which I don't know why because I don't really put the BP on my neck. Also my arms and back were clear for the longest time and now I'm starting to break out on my arms and back again. Feeling pretty frustrated
