So I have been on Accutane for 4 months now, and my skin is begging to clear up. I still have redness ( post acne marks )
Anyways, My body skin is really dry and I have been using La Roche Posay Body balm in the last few days. I just noticed that it has canola oil in the ingredients. I heard due to its thick nature, it can clog pores and cause breakouts; maybe on the face too, because I normally put my arms on my face while sleeping. ( i apply this at night)
Here is the ingredients list : http://www.laroche-posay.com/products-treatments/Lipikar/Lipikar-Balm-AP-p7698.aspx
Best regards
Canola oil is just an Omega 6, aka grapeseed. These are good for you. As a topical, it is just sitting on your skin.
"Niacimide to restore the cutaneous barrier" supports that this is a product that doesn't aim to work beyond the surface layer of your skin, and nothing is entering your pores to occlude them, though you'd need a complete list of ingredients and a Cosmetics Chemistry book to look up the non-active ingredients to see if anything else in it might cause a breakout. So if you're gently exfoliating once a day, you should be fine. The product aims to create a protective barrier which is just as good for acne as stripping everything down. Your body has less sebaceous glands, as well, so I'd say keep using it.
However! I'm skeptical of luxury products with a ton of advertising and fancy packaging. You can guarantee you're paying more for the marketing than you are for the active ingredients. "Niacimide" is simply Vitamin B3, for example, and since the La Roche is not penetrating your skin, just sitting on top with the canola oil you might as well just supplement that orally or get it dietarily. I'm not saying LaRoche is all wax and filler like department store wrinkle creams, but you have to look at the ingredients, how bioactive they are, and what you are paying per oz. (For example, Mychelle bottles are tiny but their ingredients are incomparable, and that's what you're paying for- not a $50 2 oz bottle of stuff you can get at the natural grocer for $5 without the emulsifiers, fragrances and preservatives, which can be irritating and even carcinogenic.)
If you find you break out, I came across a product on Amazon called 8oz Organic Sweet Potato Lotion by My Skin's Friend. It's paraben-free, rich in non-oil Vitamin A-E based (to speed cell turnover, good for dryness/ acne.)
