I'm on 40 mg.
Take in mind that hair needs oiliness (nutrients) to maintain itself alive and attached to the head and everywhere else. So,suffering Accutane hair side effects is normal (until a certain grade).
Accutane sucks up all these oiliness as you already know, causing thinning, dryness, fuzziness, dandruff and abnormal hair shedding, and in some cases hair loss (reversible in most of them).
By statistics when Accutane affects the hair, most people suffer hair thinning, hair dryness/dandruff and increased hair shedding, all reversible after the treatment is over. In this cases, hair will grow perfectly normal during the course, you will just have a bit finer hair and shed a bit more.
In a less percentage, there is people that will suffer hair loss during or after the course. This doesn't mean that you will end up balding or with a receding hair line, you may lose some volume and that's about it. Most cases of hair loss induced by accutane are caused by TE (telogen effluvium),that is completely reversible, but it may take some time to resolve itself.
In a even lesser percentage (>%1),there is people that will suffer permanent hair loss or completely destroyed hair.
You should also take in mind that if baldness runs in your family,Accutane may accelerate it (this is for men) and that the severity of these accutane hair side effects list are dose dependent (but there is people that unfortunately suffer a lot even with super low doses).
Also remember that,if something of these starts to happen its more likely that it will not stop during the course.
Now talking in a personal way,i'm on my third month and i suffered from hair shedding BODY WIDE since week one. Now,my hair grows normally and i still cut it once per week. I just have some increased hair shedding and a bit finer hair due to the dryness. (no hair loss,no decreased volume,no receding hair line)
Take care of your hair. Don't shampoo it to much, but use conditioner every day. Taking supplements and shit during the course to help out the hair, will do nothing.
I recommend the following. I was on 40mg for two months then 60 for 5 months. I took biotin the whole course to keep my hair strong. Avoid over washing. I went about 4 days between washing once all the oil stopped producing. Sounds gross but trust me you don't need to wash it that much once the oil is gone. When I did wash I always did a deep conditioning to avoid brittle hair. I never lost hair or thinned out in any way.
Hi!
So I was on 2 courses of Accutane.
After my first course ended , I had a major hair loss. It started after 3 months, it was very bad. I lost about 60%, and my hair was very long too. When I started my second course, I was VERY worried about my hair..If I shed more, I would have to cut my hair VERY short not to look like a Persian cat dipped into the pool.
This is what I did through out my entire second course:
1. Biotin EVERY DAY WITH FOOD.
2. MSM Supplement. I love them, I still take it everyday. Makes hair strong, grows way faster and your skin looks great too.
3.Folic Acid. I took 1 pill for a month..then stop for a month...then take it again for a month.
4. Purchased Almond Oil, Castrol Oil and Argan Oil, and Coconut oil on Amazon. (I get everything on Amazon)
Before washing my hair, I would ALWAYS treat my hair to the mask with one of the oils or a mix, for an hour. THEN wash with a gentle shampoo.
5. BIG BRUSH, ALWAYS brushed my hair very gently. THEN while hair is not completely dry I would use leave-in treatment. I got one from Aveeno, one from It's 10.
Anyways, it's been about 4 months, so far no hair loss. FINGERS CROSSED!
If you have any questions, please, feel free to message me!
thanks guys
not washing hair too often makes sense im planing to use a baby shampoo maybe Jonhson's Baby since its not that harmful?
i will definetly do that deep conditioning thing with essential oils and stuff
but im not sure about biotin i heard that it causes break outs no?
i also heard that massaging some garlic directly to the scalp is also good at stopping hairloss?
Actually don't do the baby shampoo. My hair colorist told me once when I was trying to get black hair dye to fade out of my hair, to use baby shampoo because it strips your hair, even more so than a daily clarifying shampoo does.
I heard biotin caused breakouts too. I was on Accutane though so I knew it wouldn't make my acne any worse than what it was at that point. So I figured mise well use biotin now while acne doesn't have a chance to crop up. I continued to use it for about 5 months after my course because I heard so many stories about losing hair after finishing the course. It didn't cause any breakouts for me.
That's my two cents anyway
