Picking Skin

I got acne about 3 years ago. I'm now on birth control and doxycycline, I'd say my acne has gone now but i do still break out. and when i do, i pick like crazy.

its summer, and i've literally been in the house for 2 months. I've ruined my skin. right now I'm in agony after picking a couple of tinyyyyyyyy tiny tiny spots into huge open wounds. to top it off the skin around one of these wounds has swelled up like a golf ball so i assume its infected. i've been putting natural honey and also occasionaly lemon on this area and the picked skin itself. my scars from over the past 3 years are already awful, and I'm just creating more and more and i cannot help it.

i remember the first time i got spots and i picked them like mad and since then its been a never-ending cycle. even with makeup on when id class my skin as 'clear' it looks awful with all the red marks and scars.

the state it is in now is so horrible i won't even show my friends or family. its so sore and i can't see it healing anytime soon. i need to get out this house. i'm so fed up and depressed.

any tips? thank you

Find someone you can talk to about it. I was a terrible picker before my first round of Accutane, and I have the scars to prove it. When my acne returned 10 years later, I knew I had to do something to avoid picking. At the time there was a support thread on here for people who pick, and I found that extremely helpful. It gave me a sense of accountability, and people I could talk to for support that weren't judgmental. It's hard to find people who truly understand this disorder, but they are out there.

And stay away from mirrors. They are a pickers worst enemy.

hi, i too have picked for years. i am now on accutane, i have still picked but obviously not to the extent it was.. however doing so is asking for scars, especially on accutane! anyway i know how you feel, i myself am going to see a therapist.

in the UK you can talk to a support group called talking spaces. i think the only tips are avoid mirrors. seriously.

but do get help asap. i picked for about 6 years and i wish i hadnt, i have minor scarring because of it, its depressing! the sooner you stop for good the sooner your skin can heal and you wont cause further damage.

its like a smoker, how much damage you do before you quit is entirely up to you.

regarding the infection, see a doctor asap! also consider accutane.
