Will I Forever Have Acne?

Well, the title says it all. I've had mild acne since the age of 14 years old. Before that age I had flawless skin. The one thing that gets me where my dermatologist and almost everyone I ask tells me is: it's genetic. I don't get it, because my parents, mom & dad, never had it. Atleast, that's what they tell me. Besides, if they did, it probably wasn't too much.

Anyways, I was hoping to know if I will still have acne once I pass puberty? I quit dairy (well as much as possible, its in almost everything) and switched to almond milk. I also try not to eat too much sugar also. And currently I take Oracea Doxycycline Capsules 40mg for acne. I see minimal improvement in my face, but still I want to know if you guys believe acne extends beyond puberty? I hate it and I'm sure everybody else does too.

Thanks

Yes, it quite often extends beyond puberty unfortunately. I'm 20, have had acne since I was 12, and it is still showing no signs of going away even as a young adult. We are both going to have to take active action to get this under control - don't just wait for it to go away and let the years slip by when you could be out there, living them. I know how much acne impacts your life in every way, both personally and professionally, so I'm not going to give up. And you shouldn't either. If your current treatment isn't working after you have giving it a good few months, try something else. And keep trying until you find what works for you, even if it's the last resort. But waiting for puberty to end is a risk because acne often lasts longer and leaving it longer is only going to make it worse.
