For home remedies, I find that Epsom salt soaks really work to bring down the swelling. Witch hazel and tea tree oil help with inflammation and killing bacteria. Taking ibuprofen for pain and swelling can help too. I think your best bet would be to go to a derm.

Moderate:

-Oral antibiotics (doxycycline, tetracycline, etc)

-Topical antibiotic (BP and/or clindamycin, etc) + retinoid --> first-line treatment

-Azelaic acid + antibiotic (BP and/or clindamycin, etc) --> second-line treatment

-Antiandrogens or BCPs for women: first or second-line treatment, depending whether they're diagnosed with PCOS or hirsutism

Other: salicylic acid, sodium sulfacetimide + sulfur, chemical peels, laser and light therapy

Severe:

-Accutane --> first-line treatment

-Oral steroids for short-term, sometimes with Accutane to minimize side effects

Sometimes multiple courses are needed. Retinoids + antibiotics are used as maintenance treatment.

Maintenance therapy: topical antibiotic + retinoid

No. I have a lot of medical textbooks, access to dermatologists and their help, and I want to be a dermatologist one day.

You're welcome! 🙂
