Hi all! I just signed up here
Just a bit of information, I've had acne since I was about 12. Its not always been severe but I'd say I havent had a period of clear skin since I was a child.
I do suffer from a moderate amount of cysts but its mainly a lot of pustules and whiteheads all over my face. I saw a dermatologist today for a separate issue and she asked me about my skin (wasnt wearing any makeup to hide it.)
Ive tried tetracyline in my teens for my acne to no effect, differin cream which made me break out so badly. I persevered with it for 10 weeks but I didnt respond at all, its left me with bad scarring all over my face.
Ive been taking trimethorprim for about a month now and havent seen any improvements whilst using duac cream as well.
My grandma took accutane for severe acne when she was younger and it completely cleared her skin which is where I first heard about it.
Im getting desperate, I never expected to still have acne in my twenties when I was a teenager but its worse than its ever been right now.
One of my main concerns is how bad were the side effects of accutane? Im so desperate to improve my skin, I dont know what else to try.
Yep, you would likely qualify--unless you had some contraindications (like pregnancy).
The side effects depends on how much you take. The most common side effects are dry skin and lips, back pain, muscle tenderness, headaches, and increased blood cholesterol and glucose.
You can opt for the low dose and work your way up from there if you're concerned about side effects.
