Does Acne Affect Skin Elasticity?

This may seem like a dumb question, but I'm a 20 y/o female who has (hormonal) severe cystic acne. I don't have many pimples, sometimes I'm "clear", but I scar with each one so it's considered severe. I go on accutane in less than a month. I just feel like my skin looked so much more youthful pre acne/scarring. I'm just wondering,I guess, if the acne is to blame? Will accutane tighten my skin, if I keep moisturizing religiously? I understand a lot of things about acne and aging separately, but haven't found anything answering my question.

I feel like the use of meds across the years have made my sensitive skin very *thin*- like if i ever want to use makeup i cant because my skin will peel very easy (and its not even dry) its just thin.... its weird.

That's not a dumb question at all!

Acne scarring, especially from severe acne, damages the collagen and elastin. The new collagen and elastin that returns doesn't "lay" properly in the skin.

Accutane will not restore elastin, but it will sure prevent nodules and cysts that will damage it.

To restore lost/damaged elastin, you need to give your skin an "incentive" to repair it. Topicals won't do, because they can't signal the skin to repair itself. This is why lasers and medium-depth chemical peels work.

@ Avada Kedavra Acne: Are you diligently using sunscreen and sun protection?

You have to wait 6 plus months to do either of those things after accutane, right?
