Some general info:
I have had acne for several years (since 18, I am now 29) and I have what they call mild, but very stubborn and persistent acne. They are located mainly on the sides of my cheeks, and occasionally on my forehead. Nothin around nose or my chin.
Usually, when I started using acne creams / topicals prescribed by my dermatologist, my skin usually improved within a few weeks. I don't remember what I used, but Finacea was one of them and it worked out OK. Now, nothing seem to work.
I have not managed to get rid of this for over a year now. I have used Epiduo + antibiotics. Helped a little, but I had to stop because my skin became too irritated.
Benzyl Peroxide worked just OK, but it did not make it disappear. The pimples returned.
Now I've been on Differin for over 3 months without seeing any improvement, and my face has never been this bad before. I had to stop using it because it irritated my skin too much. I know that Differin usually makes it worse before it gets better, but because of the irritation I cannot continue using it.
I have tried dermabrasion and acid peels several times, it worked just a little but the acne returned once again.
I am considering asking for another acne cream, or ask for Accutane.
For Accutane; I have had acne for so many years and noting has helped cure them once and for all. They always return. Maybe Accutane is the only thing that can make me acne free
Against Accutane: I don't have cysts.Never had them. As far as I have read Accutane is for those with cystic acne. Or am i wrong? What I have are small hard bumps of clogged pores, that often get inflamed and some turn into pimples. They are tiny, but they are numerous. And very hard to get rid of. Whenever I touch my face, my skin feels rough.I rarely use makeup and I never touch my face. I wash my pillowcase often. I have no idea why I have this.
Now here are a few questons:
I have dry skin, should I use Accutane anyway?
I have tried many different cleansers and creams, nothing works. Absolutely nothing. Right now I'm trying not to irritate my skin further and keep a simple cleasning regime, a cleanser and a non-irritating , non-perfumed and non-comedogenic face cream:
Dermalogica special cleanse gel x2 daily Dermalogica Super Smoothing Cream 2x daily
tl;dr:
Nothing seem to work, should I try Accutane even though my acne is not cystic?
Accutane has cleared up my skin great. I also never had cystic acne. Topicals stopped working for me as well and irritated my skin. You have two options left though. You can go the Accutane route or sense you are a female try hormonal treatments such as birth control or sprio. Accutane will clear you though and you can use it with dry skin.
I Happen to be in the same boat. My acne is not severe but extremely persistent and scarring at times. I was just prescribed Keflex for my acne and if it doesn't work which i'm pretty sure it wont...I'm going to give accutane a try. Its been seven years and it's just time I can feel it, every other treatment that my derm has suggested does not work and I feel as if accutane is my last result.
