Hi everyone! I'm so thankful I found this site. I am 38 and suffer from hormonal acne. My derm put me on 25mg two times a day of spiro and 100mg of doxy two times a day. It's been right at two weeks on both meds and my face is worse than ever. I get a new cyst every day and the old ones seem to never clear up. They get smaller and seem to be getting better, then just flame up again. Is this normal? I've read about initial breakouts, but my cysts have never been this bad. Before now I was on monocycline two daily for about 6 months and use the topical Ziana. She told me to keep using the Ziana with the spiro and doxy. I can't take BCP at all nor anything like depo or even Mirena. They cause me to have uncontrollable mood swings to the point I can't function so that us not an option to add to the mix. Any help from fellow spoor people would be great.
Hi there DawgMama! Hope you are hanging in there. I too started Spiro 50mg a day on Dec 30th...it's amazing how you just count every single day on treatment with this horrible hormonal acne. Well like you I did experience a terrible initial breakout, it started last week (also the week before my period and lasted a whole week, inflammatory and in places I hadn't really been breaking out). I also started to have all the little clogged pores jaw line, sides of my chin, cheeks... depressing for sure. But keep it up, and stay positive that you are doing something each day and making progress towards a better time in your life where you aren't dealing with this. I am about to start Doxy an antibiotic in addition to the Spiro to help with the inflammation and initial breakout to calm down and clear until Spiro really works over the next few months and balances out my wacky hormones. I was hoping to at least get some support or advice as a relative newbie to this whole cystic acne journey. Oh well....guess not......such is life.
