This is a just a post to hopefully help someone. This is about where I am and what I've learned.
My name is Cameron and I have dealt with acne since I was about 14. I am 19 now and my acne has gone through a lot of changes. Sophomore, Junior and Senior year of High School I had lots of cysts on my cheeks. I tried a lot of medications and stupid techniques to get rid of acne through the years but eventually started some sort of "regimen" probably about 15 months ago involving face wash, BP, salicylic acid and lotion. After doing research, I started to experiment overtime by reducing my face washing to twice a day from three, eating more/less of certain foods, taking supplements and just recently I bought the regimen kit. All these things helped my skin slowly get to where it is now. It isnt perfect but it is a LOT better than it was a few short months ago.
I dont let my diet dictate my life at all but I generally try to make somewhat conscious decisions regarding my diet and acne. It is necessary to point out that it did not at all make my acne go away but taking diary and high glycemic foods without a doubt HELPS! at least for me it did.
Supplements also seem to not be the "cure" but definitely something worth taking. I take a mutlivitamin, omega 3, zinc and ibueprofen when I have a big zit. These have definitely helped me out a lot.
A week ago I received my regiment kit plus. I have nothing but good things to say about it so far, my skin has gotten pretty used to high loads of BP over the years so i havent gone through a red, dry, itchy phase at least yet. Aside from having no breakouts for a week and a few days, my skin's overall texture and feeling is a lot better on the regimen.
MY ADVICE:
Eat relatively healthy, take supplements, get LOTS of sleep and find a regimen. Like i said, Dans has been working great for me. Also, I have exzema and the jojoba oil has basically cured it. As far as the social aspect, do your best to just pretend like your skin is clear. it is the worst feeling ever always wondering how your skin looks and I honestly wish that upon no one.
QUESTION: My skin is feeling pretty clear these days and I am relatively pleased but someone should PLEASE look at these pictures and give me some personalized advice!! I have some scarring and bumps on my chin that arent very visible unless its in the light or i puff out my cheeks but theyre still annoying!
Thanks
I think what you're doing sounds good. And your skin looks great. The regimen combined with a reasonably good diet is probably one of the best things you can do for acne. I posted last month that my two sons were starting the regimen and they are now 4 1/2 weeks into it. They are a little younger than you (15 and 14) but are doing the same thing as you and it's working well. They didn't have cystic acne, but a lot of smaller pimples on cheeks and chin. The regimen has really helped to not only clear the pimples but also the underskin bumps. The texture of their skin looks so much better now.
I agree with you that dairy and high carb load isn't good. That said, my boys still eat most of what teenage boys eat. They just try to avoid the obvious stuff, like milk and lots of cheese, pastas, and esp. drinks like soda, Arizona tea, gatorade, etc. (I happen to think those drinks are the worst-such a load of sugar grams!)
I say keep doing what you're doing and the small bumps on your chin will eventually go away. They are hardly noticeable so don't worry about them. I also agree with you that stressing about your skin does no good. My sons don't let their acne bother them and it's def better that way. Stress can only make things worse.
Good luck.
