High Dose B5 And Increased Cortisol

So I know B5 plays a big role in the functioning of adrenal glands and that B5 may cause adrenal glands to get bigger. I was wondering if taking about 10gr of B5 per day, which I do, will enlarge the adrenal glands and possibly cause chronically elevated cortisol levels?

I am experiencing an increase in anxiety the last couple of years and I can't stop thinking about the role B5 may play in this.

I wish that would suffice, but unfortunately it doesn't

'...B5 may cause adrenal glands to get bigger. I was wondering if taking about 10gr of B5 per day, which I do, will enlarge the adrenal glands and possibly cause chronically elevated cortisol levels?'

why would b5 cause your adrenal glands to get bigger ? where have you attained this information ?

it assists in adrenal gland function and nothing I have read considers this a side effect of b5 that i've come across. i think what you may have stumbled upon is a reference to cytochrome b5 which isn't vitamin b5 and adrenal gland increase with certain diseases. This is not vitamin b5 though.

It has been wonderful. 3 weeks after starting the treatment the acne started to clear quite rapidly. This was at 10 grams per day, which is high, but not abnormal for a b5 treatment.

I've read one or two articles on pub med in which the researchers gave mice quite a lot of b5 and looked at their adrenal glands. The adrenal glands of mice who took b5 were significantly bigger than those who didn't. I also read on forums that taking b5 can cause prolonged cortisol and adrenal release after stressful events. I just don't know if the b5 caused abnormal release of this hormones or if the control group showed insufficient hormone release.

I can't really give you the links since I'm on my phone right now

this study, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18520055 references giving b5 to rats and it increases cortisol and progesterone,..

from what i can read of this study,.. the b5 supplemented to the rats increased cortisol and progesterone for the rats which assisted in adrenal gland function.

this study, http://www.toxpath.org/ssdnc/AdrenalProliferativeRat.pdf may be the study you are referencing regarding adrenal gland size.. but this has to do with cytochrome b5 which isn't vitamin b5

his topic needs to be expanded upon. but increases in progesterone are pretty much a good thing from my casual reading, and slight increases in cortisol from b5 is giving b5 its anti stress component and is considered good for both decreasing stress and controlling weight gain. this vitamin clearly has a larger role to play in the body than assistance with coenzyme a function and fat metabolism which is helping people with their skin. on the flip side too much cortisol is a bad thing,.. which may be being caused with mega dosing,..

from a heart health website.. 'Cortisol is a complete opposite of progesterone. Elevated levels of cortisol may lead to osteoporosis, weight gain, adrenal fatigue, high blood pressure, faster heart rate, diabetes, hypercortisolism, insomnia, reduced collagen synthesis, weaker immune system and it may even damage the heart muscle and blood vessels.

On the other hand, acute stress and certain amount of cortisol is beneficial. Cortisol has a role in fight or flight reaction, homeostasis and it possesses anti-inflammatory properties. So, not only that we need to increase progesterone but we also have to balance out these two.'

a deficiency in vitamin b5 can cause atrophy of the adrenal glands,.. perhaps there is a reverse relationship with mega dosing..?

has this been discussed in the hair loss topic people ?

this topic needs to be expanded upon,.. if anyone can add anything, or perhaps clarify some things ive written im sure it would be beneficial for all.. cheers

Thanks for the reply. I totally agree when you say this topics needs to be expanded upon. I was suprised that I couldn't find a lot of info on this subject when I started searching the web.
