Hi guys,

i've had the worst breakout in my life about three months ago, and i have since brought it under control, however i'm left with these very unsightly post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and some acne scars. I have been religiously applying topicals to these red marks, for the past couple of months, however they only show very slight signs of improvement. Therefore my question is, how long does it take for these marks to completely disappear, or will they disappear at all?

Recently i've also been exploring the option of laser treatments, i do not have very serious acne, and i would like to get rid of these acne scars and marks more than anything else. What kinds of laser treatments are recommended, or is fractional co2 the only way to go about it? Would appreciate it if anyone that has been through a similar treatment could share their experience here.

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately red marks take a loooong time to fade, even with topicals. I've been using Retin a for PIH for months and it's shown very little improvement. The best thing I can recommend for acne marks is a lot of patience or a lot of money (for peels). I don't know about lasers though, sorry. Good luck!

If the hyperpigmentation is on your cheeks then you're unlucky because they will take aggeeees to fade just because the skin is thicker on the cheeks. I've been waiting for 9 months with a bit of fading but not as much as I want. Hang in there, remember that treatments like laser and such will only make your skin more sensitive and more prone to damage once acne comes around again.

hey guys thanks for the input. sadly the marks are all centered on my cheeks, i have no marks anywhere else, i somehow only get acne on my cheeks and none on my chin or forehead. does anyone know the cause for this?

how do peels eventually work out for PIH?

Chemical peels, which come in different levels of mild to moderate, basically peel off layers of your skin, which greatly helps pigmentation problems. Microdermabrasions also help with red marks but they're milder and it takes quite a few sessions to see results.
