So I'm a high school senior right now with mild-moderate acne. When i was a sophmore my acne problem was really mild and you could barely notice anything but once junior year came in, i was exhuasted and stress all the time and i slept around 2 to 4 every night studying. Now i have more acne bc of the stress and lack of sleep.

I tried benzoyl peroxide with sacyllic acid alraedy and that stuff hasnt worked because it irritated my skin all the time. When i went to school i looked like a tomato.

i started the caveman regimen four weeks ago my skin has improved a little bit but why is it still so bad? I still get 2 or 3 whiteheads every other day. Isn't the purging period suppose to be over? I also cut down on the dairy and sugar stuff but nothing seems to be working. Should i continue with the caveman regimen? Help please???

Are you back on a regular sleep schedule?

I'm on prescription hormonal treatment that controls my acne, but even on that prescription, if I stayed up until 2 every night and was stressed out my skin would look like crap. I made tons of health and lifestyle changes before I went on this prescription, so that prescription only helps if I'm already living well.

Think of your body like a car. You have to gas up the car, get oil changes, wash it so it doesn't rust out, repair it when a rock hits the windshield...

Sleep is your body's main repair function. Stress is like getting ice and debris on the bottom of your car and not doing anything about it until it rusts out. Not eating well is like skipping oil changes. You get the idea.

There's really no cream you can apply or pill you can take that will make up for a poor lifestyle and diet. Many of us have a genetic predisposition to acne, which means we get acne quicker than other people. You know this, you probably have friends who live the same way you do and have perfect clear skin. (But it only lasts so long...I know A LOT of adults who now have adult acne after all the partying and binge drinking and other crap they do in college.) So you may need to do a little more to control your acne than others. But a healthy diet and lifestyle is the foundation for all that. Don't expect benzoyl peroxide to do anything when you aren't getting enough sleep and you're stressed out.

you say you 'cut down' on the dairy and the sugar.. this could also be another problem... if you have candida for example or the dairy causes more acne then you need to completely eliminate these things not just reduce intake
