ive been seeing a dermatologist and i just forgot to ask what type of acne i have and im not seeing one again for a few months so i was wondering if anyone here could tell me
Hello!
Most of your acne appears to have a head on it, so I would say you mainly have papules and pustules.. and maybe that larger one would be a cyst. Also you are right that you should give taz around 3-4 months to make sure if it's going to work for you. I also recommend when using anything on your face to be SUPER gentle, that goes with applying moisturisers, washing your face, putting any products on ect. I find irritation is a large contributor to cystic and inflamed acne.
Best of luck on your regimen! and I hope this helps (:
Get a second opinion from another dermatologist. To me it looks like folliculitis or staph. You may need to treat it with antifungals. If you can see infected/ blocked hair follicles where the acne is, then it's folliculitis. Tea tree can help with that, and some people use antifungal shampoo but I haven't tried that so I can't recommend it. If it responds to tea tree or oil of oregano, then it's folliculitis.
Yep that does not look like acne. It looks like an infection. If it itches it's probably fungal, and I would immediately begin applying antifungals, either in the form of an athlete's foot cream or an antifungal shampoo such as selsun blue (put on skin for 5-10 mins then wash thoroughly in shower). If it's fungal and you treat it with antifungals, it should respond quickly and you should see improvement within a week (but keep using the treatment for a week after it completely disappears).
If it doesn't itch, I would start treating it with antibacterials. There are many available, from benzoyl peroxide to a triple antibiotic cream.
You could just go straight for tea tree oil, as it can work against both bacteria and fungi. Dilute it first, maybe 50% water 50% tea tree oil (it's not really oil)
i appreciate the advice guys but ive been to three different dermatologist for different opinions and none of them said anything about this not being acne/ anything about an infection. i will bring it up next time i go to back tho
I had something like that, just on one corner of my chin, that took 2 years to go away. It didn't spread, or really do anything, it just sat there. For 2 years. It left a really nasty scar the same size and shape.
None of my dermatologists said it was anything else, either, so I never got it tested. But I'm pretty sure it wasn't acne, because it was different from all the other acne I had.
