Hey everyone. I'm new to this site, so forgive me if I sound confusing at all.
Since I have never posted anything about my skin condition or history, I'll let you in on that first.
Ever since 4th grade, I had some form of acne. I got small blackheads that I never worried about. I didn't know what they were, but I knew they'd eventually go away. I used the Clean and Clear Morning Burst, since it's all my sister used. 5th grade comes along. I start to get these puss-filled pimples all over my face, mostly my forehead. I didn't really know what to do since I have never had acne before until then. I knew what acne was, since my sister had it. I did make fun of her for it. But hey, doesn't every little kid who knows nothing about it? I deeply regret that though. Karma decied to come along and destroy my face. It was awkard being the only 5th grader with acne. I wore makeup, which was the wrong color and formula for my skin. Which made it worse. 6th grade comes along, and my skin is severely broken out. Cysts on my forehead and on my cheeks. I got made fun of almost daily. It started to fake being sick, just so I wouldn't have to listen to the kids pick on me. One boy in my science class always came up to me and said I needed Proactiv.
Which I actually tried 3 times. Never worked, just burned my skin like crazy. 7th grade came by, my skin was pretty flawless. I don't remember how I did it, but I was clear for the most part.
Skipping to the summer after 7th grade. My skin broke out the worst it's been. I was scared to go anywhere. I thought people were always starring at my skin, analyzing every little pimple. My mom finallty decided to say something to our doctor. He gave me some pills that were meant to treat acne. (forgot the name, but they were light blue.) I tried taking them, but they made my stomach hurt with and without food. He gave me a different pill, (also forgot the name.) and nothing. I tried many cleansers at the drugstore and nothing cleared it. I moved to a new state and started 8th grade where I used to live. My acne was still bad, and seeing people I haven't seen for years, was nerve wrecking. My skin was a mess. My mom took my to the doctor again and they gave me Minocycline and Clindaminicyn and 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide. Boy, did that mess me up. I took 2 and a half bottles of that stuff and it did nothing over the months. I then went to a derm. and they gave me some other pills and what not. My acne was so bad she mentioned Accutane. The pills didn't work and I didn't want Accutane and neither did my mom. I decided to give up. That school year in gym, some rude boy comes by and says something about me covering my acne. I ignored it, even though inside I wanted to cry.
The summer before high school my skin was still a wreck. Then, about a month before freshman year, my skin was clear as can be. I don't know what happened, but my zits just faded away. I went into 9th grade a new person. New hairstyle, fresh face, it was perfect. I got some minor breakouts throughout the year, nothing major. At the end of the school year, May and the beginning of June to be exact, I was finally clear. No scars, no pimples. I also got the birth control Depo-Provera shot in May. I thought it helped my skin. I think I was wrong. We went on vacation and I again, started breaking out. These weren't my typical breakouts. I started breaking out on my jawline, chin, mouth area, and cheeks. I thought it was stress, but when we got back my cheek was full of cysts. Just the right one. My mouth area on the left broke out bad as well. I have been breaking out ever since. I am only getting breakouts around my mouth and left cheek now sometimes, and my jawline breaks out too. I was clear of zits a few days ago, then I woke up with zits by my mouth and 2 cysts on my forehead. I have had 2 shots of the birth control so far, my 3rd is coming up on the 4th of November, and I am thinking of switching to a pill. Another reason I think I should switch, is because I am 16 and about 105 pounds. My bones are small, and the risk of bone density loss is greatly increased.
Sorry for rambling if I did. I just want help. My current skin condition is:
2 cysts in the middle of my forehead, one almost gone. A puss-filled zit on my left temple. A bunch of scars on my right cheek, but no active zits. A zit on my left jawline, a few small ones above my lip, a cyst near my nose under my left eye, and a few healing whiteheads by my mouth on the left. Scars are everywhere, but mainly on my right cheek.
What I am trying to do to help:
I put a clean towel on my pillow every night.
I don't drink milk and try not to have other dairy products.
I don't drink soda.
I have 52 ounces of water a day.
I walk about 30 minutes or more 5 times a week. (outside, not on a machine)
I make sure to clean my face and make sure my makeup is off.
I drink Chamomile tea and Green tea when I get the chance.
I NEVER touch my face.
I do pop zits sometimes, but I treat them afterwards.
I wash my makeup brushes every week.
What I use:
Burt's Bees Soap-Bark and Chamomile deep cleansing cream. (Used to use Clearasil Daily Clear Oil-free facewash, but couldn't find it at my local Walgreens. Started using it yesterday. I have been using Clearasil most of 9th grade and up until yesterday.)
Sea Breeze Sensitive astringent. (Also just started using this 4 days ago, to help get any makeup I missed off. I don't use this all the time.)
Cerave normal/dry skin lotion.
10% BP as a spot treatment on zits, not all over face.
As a night spot treatment, I use AcneFree Sulfur mask and put them on my zis and sleep with it on them.
I used to exfoliate, but was told St.Ives is too harsh and I can't find a cheap, good one.
I use the mint julpe mask every so often.
What I have used:
Clean and Clear, Loreal, Neutrogena, Clearasil, Stridex, La Roche Posay, Ambi, Burt's Bees, Oxy, Biore, Proactiv, Murad, RX medications and topical medications, Olay, St.Ives, Dove, AcneFree, and the list goes on.
Makeup:
MUFE HD oil-free primer (green tinted).
Covergirl Fresh complexion concealer.
Maybelline green coverstick concealer.
Revlon ColorStay Foundation for normal/dry skin.
Covergirl cheekers blush
Undereye luminizer (forgot name)
(I apply eyemakeup as well, but that's not important.)
I used to use MUFE HD Foundation, but the coverage was meh.
I use Tresseme shampoo and conditioner if that makes a difference. I also use Garnier curl cream. I make sure to keep my curls out of my face though.
My questions are:
What makeup is best for coverage, yet doesn't break you out and looks natural?
What birth control is best for helping acne? (Besides Yaz, Yasmine, or Diane-35)
What face products should I drop or add?
What's a good shampoo that won't break you out on your back or face?
Is there anything else I can do to help my skin? (I am pretty sure it's hormonal!)
the berts bees i think you should drop- i love all natural products (by love i mean i fancy them at a distance) because of allergies to many natural ingredients. I know maybe going away some of the chemical products is a plus- but i dont trust natural products because many risk an allergic reaction to an ingredient! just sayin.

I don't have any known allergic reactions to natural products. I've used it for about 2 days though, so we'll see. Which specific ingredients can cause allergic reactions in natural face washes?

Well- that question brings up something else. Thats like the word Non Comedogenic- which is a word companies slap on products- and listen to this- the food drug and cosmetic act does not restrict use of this word- meaning anyone and any company can put this on their products. Reactions/irritation to products depends on the person- so i could not tell you which is going to irritate you and which wont.

They shouldn't be aloud to do that. I know people who have had HORRIBLE allergic reactions to face washes. One of them actually decided to call up the company and they said that the product she used, wasn't actually non-comedogenic. I guess you're right for the most part. If I see any sign of any sort of reaction, I'll be sure to stop using the product.
Depo Provera is, for many people, pretty horrible for acne.
Please see the link in my signature about what birth control to use for acne.
I knew it had to be the Depo-Provera shot causing my hormonal breakouts. I noticed Ortho-Tri Cyclen is on the good list. Is Ortho-Tri Cyclen a really good one? I've read stories about it, and people say they breakout horribly for a while I'm not so into the whole "purging" thing.. Now, I don't have horrible acne right now, but would this break me out more or just help the hormonal spots clear up?
