Hi, this is my first time on this site. I am a 9th grader who has been suffering cystic acne since 5th grade. The pictures down below are ones I just took, and this is one of my better weeks. You may not be able to see the acne very clearly, my camera sucks. I also have some very painful cysts you cannot really see. They are under my skin and on the sides of my mouth. It makes it quite painful to eat. When one finally goes down it bruises and leaves a purple/red scar. Would my acne be considered severe or moderate. I know I have definitely seen worse.

Severe, for sure. Get to a derm ASAP before you get major scarring. You have a very bad case of acne if you've had cysts since 5th grade.

If I had to guess I would say this is grade 3 acne (there are 4 grades) but I would say more on the moderate side rather than severe. Are you currently going to a dermatologist to work out a treatment plan? There are plenty of good options for you to try! and you have a whole community that will point you in the right direction (:

Hope things work out! and if you have any questions at all feel free to message me!~

I am planning to go the derm next week and ask for acccutane. (I have literally tried everything else)

Thanks for your replies :)

so frustrating, I know just how you feel - good that you are seeing a derm, very good

have you tried any diet changes? not sure if you drink milk, but try to eliminate that for a month and see what happens, it is a big trigger for many

good luck to you!

I am actually lactose and sugar intolerant, so I try to avoid it as much as I can. I try to avoid red meat as well :)
