Hi everybody
I Keep getting these on back of my head, they are unsightly - no where else on my entire body do I have Acne, it's only ever at the back of my head!
I normally have my hair fairly long at the back and every 6 weeks I get it cut, normally after having it cut short, the spots start to appear, starting in tiny lumps, then more appear!
also can get them other places on my scalp, then when it's time for a cut again, there they still are (
Then sometimes I'll have no acne at the back after my hair is cut short, then as weeks go by and my hair gets longer at the back, they start growing again Aarrrgghhhhh
Don't know WHY - driving me insane!
Since they are literally in your hair I would say it's folliculitis. Let them heal before getting your hair cut again. In the meantime get an antibacterial soap/shampoo to wash your hair. A small amount of antibiotic ointment at night could help them heal faster as well. Next time you do get your haircut use the antibacterial soap right after. Do not pick at them!
I assume the spots itch, and that's why you had scratched them in the photo? If they are itchy I believe it's seb derm induced by malassezia yeast, aka a fungus. The back of the scalp is usually where this is found at first. I review all the current OTC treatment options here:
Long story short, buy 30 grams of Lotrimin Ultra (not the AF kind) and try it for 2 weeks. If you stop scratching, you should see some improvement if my guess is correct, but if I'm right you'll need a lifelong treatment regimen because it's an immune reaction, similar to an allergy. Nizoral 1% shampoo can be mail ordered from any online drug store, or Hegor 150 climbazole shampoo can be found on eBay -- it's more effective and smells better too.
Without any itching my 1st suggestion may not be right. You could treat for bacterial for 2 weeks and see if anything changes. Topical creams like Bactroban or Muciporin are probably the best, and easy to mail order from India without a prescription -- it's legal in the US as long as it's a small amount and for your own use only. OTC anti-bacterials don't do much. And you could try essential oils like Thyme Oil, or Oil of Oregano, diluted to about 2% to 3% in your preferred lotion.
If nothing changes after 2 weeks, then try the anti-fungals I mentioned. Good luck!
