I dont believe it is that hard though.

My dad used to be a chain smoker. He even had a brown spot on his teeth because of it.

I know for sure that one thing is mandatory to quit smoking.

DETERMINATION

I think people saying "its not doing any harm" or "it's cause of the nicotine" is just a way for them to make an excuse for doing it.

You wont get anywhere if you keep thinking and saying that.

About your friends, you should tell them that you are trying to get rid of your addiction to smoking.

If they hinder your progress, that's a sign that they aren't a good influence.

The solution would be to find friends who will understand you and make the best of who you are if you cannot influence your friends to stop smoking.

That's what i do with my life. I flush out people who will hinder me in my journey to be the best of who i am. Dont get me wrong. It doesnt mean you need to ignore them or be unfriendly. You can talk to them but avoid going out with them. Avoid them as much as you can.

Also, an interesting fact. Coffee has nicotine like cigarretes. That's what makes people addicted to it. So if people in acne.org are able to remove coffee in their lives, because it also has caffeine which aggrivates acne, then quitting smoking would be easy too.

Good for you for quitting! I can personally say that going through the process of cutting back on cigarettes has NOT been easy for me. Especially after so many years of relying on the habit to relieve stress. I'm at the point where I can go days without needing a smoke, but the anxiety always comes to a head and I need a release. That's where smoking comes in handy unfortunately. Anyways, I have told my friends about wanting to quit and they try to be supportive, but I don't think they're even aware of how much they smoke. It seems like every two seconds that someone is lighting up a cigarette -.- I love my friends so I wish they would just knock it off!

There is no way that coffee has nicotine. The FDA would have to report any findings of that... Caffeine in itself if highly addictive. I cut out caffeine a while ago to help with my acne. I don't know how much it's actually doing, but either way I don't have to rely on it to wake me up in the morning. Which is a positive! Quitting smoking has obviously not been as easy haha Oh well, one step at a time. If i smoke once a week, there are worse things in life.

All this talk about cigarettes had me craving one (or 5). Today my stress was ultra high, so I went out and bought a pack of capri slims (yes, the girly ones). I quit over 2 years ago, but I was so stressed that I said the h*ck with it and got it out of my system. It was like I never quit! I still hate the smell and the smoke, but it really helped calm my nerves and be productive all day. I do NOT recommend this! After this pack is done, I'm not buying another one. It was either this or chocolate today. At least I have been eating super healthy, but I know that doesn't make up for it.

Btw, in your signature it says you are anemic. I am too...do you ever get numbness in your hands or feet? I got checked for B12 deficiency but my levels were fine even though I'm vegetarian, so I'm not sure what's causing the numbness.

get dark chocolate,it will give u anti-oxidants and great pleasure and will not be detrimental.

so when u go 'cig vs choc', make 'choc' win win!

I agree that any addiction takes motivation to quit, but for us smokers it's sometimes easier to just light up another cigarette. If it was that easy, I don't think there would be as many smokers as there are in the world right now.

As for my friends, they don't directly influence me or tell me to smoke. When I 'quit' they are always aware and won't let me smoke any of theirs, they let me make my own decision which is to buy some and I do. I'm not a highly influenced person, if I want to do something, I'll do it regardless of what anybody has to say. Very stubborn minded. So I can't blame them.

Lol been a regular 1/2 pack a day smoker since like 18 and 27 now. On accutane 31st day and still smoking the exact same amount. One would think I should cut back or quit but I really don't think the changes will be that effective. Every genetic makeup of a human being are different and I know chain smokers with crystal clear skin but at the same time non smokers with a pizza face so I don't know, I will continue to smoke I guess lol

I actually do get numbness in both my hands and feet! I've attributed it to my anxiety disorder, but now maybe it can be from anemia. I also have a B12 deficiency which causes my hands to be shaky all the time... The combination of the two deficiencies causes me to get massive headaches -.- I hate it. I had to quit being a vegetarian because I wasn't being too responsible about making sure I get the proper nourishments.

And I'm glad you've decided to just use the pack and quit the habit again! Definitely not a good thing to start up again. I know the stress can be killer, but if you already kicked the habit then stay away from cigarettes!

I agree that any addiction takes motivation to quit, but for us smokers it's sometimes easier to just light up another cigarette. If it was that easy, I don't think there would be as many smokers as there are in the world right now.

I totally relate to this. Once I have an idea in my head, whether it' smoking or whatever, no one can persuade me to do otherwise... I wouldn't say I'm stubborn. More like I can sometimes be one-track-minded.

Yeah I think that's what I meant too. I couldn't think of the word at the time...

The minute I get the thought of having a cigarette in my head, it's only a matter of time before I do. The last time I failed a quit, me and my friend were both doing it together and I feel bad because she was doing so well and as soon as I started smoking again, she did too. We're each others worst enemy when it comes to smoking.

I don't think the connection between cigarettes and acne is very important, because although we may not know if it causes acne, we certainly understand many of the other harmful effects. Sucks that we humans have such addictive qualities =/

Anyway, here's a short, but interesting article about this topic if anyones interested: *Moderator edit, URL removed - read the board rules*

I have read about that before! It's interesting... Personally I would rather smoke and have non-inflammatory acne, than to NOT smoke and have inflammatory acne. But, that doesn't mean I'm going to continue smoking just to diminish my mild inflammatory acne. I wish there were more studies to find out the correlation between smoking and acne. Would definitely give us smokers a reason to quit for good!

Well, yeah... but that's why I said: "But, that doesn't mean I'm going to continue smoking just to diminish my mild inflammatory acne". Acne is more than just a skin condition for me. My life has been completely altered by this condition, so my brain tells me to do anything I can to get rid of it. If you read above ^^, you can see that many of us, including me, know how unhealthy smoking is and know we shouldn't continue the with the habit any longer.

I think smoking can somewhat help with inflammation, but the actual smoke can irritate the skin, if that makes sense. Also, if any of you are smoking to lose weight, let me tell you this. When I quit smoking 2 years ago, my metabolism became faster and I lost weight. I wasn't chubby or anything, but I had some extra weight in my midsection sometimes due to hormonal imbalances. I was smoking to eat less and also because it was like a social crutch for me. It was helping me feel more comfortable in social situations and meet more people, but I realized I didn't need it. 3 days of smoking again, and I feel bloated even though I have been eating less. It helps a lot that none of my friends are smokers, they are just drinkers and heavy eaters lol.

I am definitely not using smoking to lose weight... In fact, according to my Dr. I need to gain weight. I have noticed that smoking speeds up my already ridiculously fast metabolism, so just another reason to quit. I'm so glad that none of your friends are smokers, because that will definitely help aid in the not smoking process. As for the drinking and eating... Can't help you there lol My friends are the exact same way. They give me so much sh*t because I'm so anal about my healthy lifestyle!

I know right?! It has basically been proven that smoking helps reduce inflammatory acne! Ahhh, why is something so bad for you, allegedly good for acne? Why is life so malicious?? eusa_wall.gif

Not necessarily. Some of the articles have conclusions like this one: "According to multiple logistic regression analyses acne prevalence was significantly higher in active smokers (40.8%, OR 2.04, 95% CI 1.40--2.99) as compared with non-smokers (25.2%)". So, even though it's non-inflammatory acne in many cases, it's still acne. Even if there were conclusive studies that showed that smoking greatly reduces inflammation, I doubt those studies would ever get sponsored unless it was by tobacco companies.

I am thirty years old and have been smoking cigarettes since I was thirteen. I was smoking up to twenty cigarettes a day. My skin was almost always clear of acne. One or two and maybe three pimples here and there. I stress about life just as much as everyone else does and found ways to relieve that stress. For example smoke a cigarette, drink a beer, and even smoke a joint. I work a very physical job and sweat a lot so I don't exercise too much outside of work.

Just about four months ago I quit smoking, drinking, and smoking*. One month after quitting I gained weight and developed acne all over my back, shoulders, and a couple on face/neck area. These pimples and cysts are itchy and dry but they won't pop easily if squeezed or not at all. I don't even bother cause it causes more bad than good.

There is nothing I can do about it. I believe my body is healing. Not just my skin but everybody part. I think it is gonna take a few years till I adjust to a healthier me.

the only problem i have with cigarettes and my acne is the TOUCHING!!! bringing the cigarette to my lips and switching between hands didnt help. the inflammation was kind of bad but the actual bumps werent as severe as the ones that just formed on their own. i have many people to tell me to stop smoking for my acne but regardless i should stop because of the many obvious health risks it runs!

after reading all this I am strongly considering trying smoking to get rid of acne (although I have been considering smoking anyway due to peer pressure), can anyone honestly say weather or not it has helped there acne?

it makes sense when you think about it, suppresses immune system and hormones, extremely anti inflammatory, and takes any color out of your face... I am yet to see a smoker with noticeable acne.

When I was a smoker/partier, my skin did accelerate in age prematurely. I think I broke out less when I was smoking, drinking etc. but I hadn't learned how to pop a pimple yet, I left my skin alone, I was socially active and stress free, young strong liver, those things all helped. The tone of my skin was worse- nicotine activates the adrenals, depriving it of nutrients, over dilating blood vessels.
