Hi all,
I'm 28 years old and finally realised a pattern for when my acne breaks out on my face.
- In 2009, I had completely clear skin and visited the states during their summertime. In my 2nd week my face broke out under my chin and on my forehead.
- in 2011, I left Australia to work in Hong Kong for 1 month. It was extremely hot and humid and in the 2nd week my face started to break out quickly.
- 2013 Jan, I had perfectly clear skin but came summertime in Australia my face broke out. *this I believed is linked to this one week where I had Korean BBQ twice* and 1 week after that - My face started to breakout quite severely with cysts that lasted all the way till April.
- 2013 July, At this point in time my acne had cleared but unfortunately my skin was left with dark marks and hyper pigmentation it didn't really look much better. I went to Hong Kong again for a holiday for 2 weeks and on my 2nd week I started to break out again.
Let me add that after playing sports like basketball and tennis my face would break out as well.
So from my understanding, it appears my face will break out when it's hot.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to combat this?
Your theory is very similar to mine, if not exactly. See, I live in a city where it is humid and hot all year around (mid 80's ALL year round) and I've been getting acne ever since I came to live here. Sure, before I had like 3 or 4 pimples on my forehead like any teenager, but when I moved here, I had to be put on doxycycline, and later Accutane because I broke out uncontrollably.
BUT, here's the thing.
A week or two ago, I visited Gainesville, FL, where there isn't humidity at all. And if there is heat, it's dry heat, not the typical humid, hot climate changing days where I live at. I ate like a pig in Gainesville due to me visiting the University there (I ate BK's, Subways, Olive Garden, french toast, brownies, you name it. Things I normally wouldn't eat, I ate it there). Surprisingly, I didn't get pimples. At all. Something I usually would expect from eating so badly for 3 days.
So basically, I agree: Heat causes acne. Wish I could move from this city.
KSG1996 - It does appears our skin conditions are very similar. I also would like to add that all through last year I was drinking every weekend, followed by late night mac Donald's at least once a week. I pretty much did not have to worry about my diet and ate whatever I wanted (aside from chilli food which I tend to break out) and still be fairly clear skin.
I used to be on proactive but that started to dry up my skin badly which I did not mind but had to stop due to it drying up my eyes which became quite damaging (I did not apply too close to the eyes yet it still affected it)
Today I went to see a doctor and he prescribed me Differin which I'm going to trial for a month or two. Let me know if anyone wants to follow up the results and I will keep you posted.
Interesting discussion! But I claim that acne is due to the fact that we dont eat right, I noticed it myself
