Hi,
I've posted up what has helped me clear my face of acne after I already have it but I also wanted to post up how I prevent it from happening.
When I drink milk I will almost 100% of the time break out in acne. This got me thinking... What other foods are causing acne? I had been to the naturopath and asked for a food intolerance test. It's quite expensive ($150ish) but it is worth it if you are serious about defeating acne.
Acne can be caused by many things. In my case it was a combination of not cleaning my face and eating food that I had intolerance to. Acne is a sign that there is trouble going on internally, In a way it's a good thing because it let's you know something is not right.
So I took the test which consists of a pinprick on the end of your finger and taking a sample of your blood. It is then placed in a dish filled with a solution. This dish has many little circles that correlate to different foods. If the circle turns a shade of blue then you have an intolerance to that food and darker the blue, the more intolerant you are.
The test revealed that I was intolerant to almost all of my favourite food! Milk, Eggs, Wheat, Almonds, Beans, Citrus Fruits, Potato and the list goes on. It was a shock to me because almost all of the food at your local supermarket contains one of these ingredients. I'm able to mostly avoid eating foods that I am intolerant too and occasionally still eat ones that I am not supposed to eat. As long as I don't eat them often.
My skin is almost always clear now. From my experience the best way to treat acne is to address the underlying issue. You can apply all the cleaners, toners and moister you want. If your eating food that you are not supposed to your body is going to try flush the toxins out and unfortunately for some of us that is through our skin and no amount of external solutions will work.
My regime:
- Try to avoid my trigger foods.
- Take a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar with a glass of water everyday.
- I do not clean my face. I have a shower then use Bior Toner afterwards. I think this cleans my face, I am not sure but it works wonders!
- Moisturize with Olay normal with suncream.
- That's it!
Hi, just a clarification, I don't believe there is any way to get tested for a food intolerance (apart from a very few). Food allergy-yes, but not a food intolerance. A blood test or a skin-prick test does not diagnose a food intolerance.
An allergy involves the body's immune system reacting almost immediately to a particular food or something else while a food intolerance is the digestive system's delayed response to a food that it does not want to accept.
A skin-prick test will only identify food allergies, which, of course, are helpful to know, too.
With that said, I'll tell you about my experience with getting tested. I originally got tested for food allergies 4-5 years ago because of stomach problems. After going to an allergist, it was discovered that I had allergies to common foods such as: dairy, eggs, wheat, soy, citrus, a few types of nuts.
I obviously eliminated the foods after finding out and I simultaneously went on an "elimination diet" to discover intolerances (again, there is no real way to find out if you have intolerances unless of course you manipulate your diet this way and that to see if your digestive system reacts-which isn't the most accurate).
I realized that with all certainty, my skin would get worse when consuming dairy. Even with the elimination of dairy and all those other foods, though, I still had acne.
Anyway, I went back to the allergist a year ago to see if I perhaps had more allergies because I continued having acne and stomach problems even with the elimination of all those foods. This time I got tested for the previous foods but also a whole other array of foods.
Surprisingly, I tested negative for everything, even the foods that I reacted to a mere 2-3 years ago.
I'm guessing my particular acne is more than just diet related.
Glad you figured out yours was diet related. I hope it continues to improve. Would be interesting for you to go back to the allergist or whomever to get retested for allergies to see if they improve or if you develop any more. I've heard of many instances in which people would retest negative for foods they previously tested allergic to, like me.
Its an intolerance test, not an allergy test and it was very correct with what I could and could not eat. I am not sure where you are gathering your information about the validity of the test that I took.
Anyway Five Alpha, my skin started to look better within about 3 days. I highly recommend taking Organic Apple Cider Vinegar a few times a day with some water and honey. I can have clear skin within 3 days if I use this method .
Stay away from the foods you shouldn't eat and help cleanse your body with ACV.

what was the name of the test you took, and where did you take it? thanks- I've done the Alcat before, but this sounds different and certainly cheaper, let us know!
