Hi, I am new to this website as of today and I figured I would make a post and share my story. I am 17 years old and I have moderate/severe acne. It started when I was only 11 years old and at first it was mild, mainly on my forehead, but by time i was only 12 years old it became SEVERE on my forehead, never on my cheeks though. Until I was around 14, then it spread to the rest of my face. My forehead cleared up completely but it was HORRIBLE on my cheeks and chin. Every day for the last 6 years i have suffered from acne. I havent experienced one single day of clear skin. Luckily, I graduated early, so only experienced about 2 years of high school. Kids made fun of me and would point out my acne in general conversations as if i didnt know it existed. At this point in my life, my self confidence is NON EXISTENT. I have spent many days in bed crying and screaming, and sad to say I attempted suicide over it once.

I have tried: Proactiv Nuetrogena Clean And Clear Zapzyt Cetaphil Olay products...ANY over the counter product name it i have tried it. I have also tried EVERY single home remedy there is out there. My acne has me so obsessive over it and I find myself spending hours on the internet a day looking up cures...as if i havent tried them all already. I have a super clean diet and eat salad and take vitamins and fish and anything you can think, IVE TRIED. My question is, has anyone ever experienced a similar situation as me? This acne has taken over my life. and because of it i have literally 0 friends and i hardly go out in public because i dont want people to look at my face.I just want clear skin. Im sick of this its killing me. cry.gif

About 2 weeks ago i decided to throw all of the products away, im sick of them! i just wash my face with water day and night in the shower and rub ice cubes on my face to calm the acne. My skin seems alot more balanced with the oils...but no major improvement in my skin so far. i still wake up everyday with at least 2 or 3 new pimples, ALSO though, it hasnt gotten any worse luckily. (ive waken up EVERYDAY of my life for 6 years experiencing at least 5-6 new pimples.)Does anyone have any advice? :(

Hello Piggly, I'm sorry to hear about your acne condition that has been hunting you for years. I am an advocate of stopping acne through natural remedies and I would like to help you. The truth is, the best acne treatment is without any MEDICAL treatment at all. You see, using anti acne creams, antibiotics, pills, ointments, facial cleansers or whatever products doesn't really kill the root cause of acne. These medical treatments are only temporary remedy, in other words they act as band aids to your scars and acne. So the key here is to kill the root cause of acne in order to be free and achieve the glowing skin you've been dreaming of.

The root of acne is hormonal imbalances in the body. Hormones control the oil and inflammation in the skin.

If you have mild acne you can control your hormones through diet and lifestyle only (for example, many people clear up by stopping dairy because dairy is a hormonal trigger). If you have moderate to severe acne, you probably need some additional help controlling the hormones through prescription or herbal DHT inhibitors. See the big link in my signature.

Out of curiosity, what are the specific details about your diet and vitamins? Personally, I was only able to achieve clear skin using a holistic approach - a combination of a clean paleo diet full of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant rich foods (with no grains or dairy), natural and gentle topical treatments, exercise, and a myriad of vitamins and natural herbs. Have you tried The Regimen from this site?

As Green Gables pointed out, getting your hormones under control is a major aspect also.

Piggly, acne is said to be a common skin problem in the US and almost 80% of Americans are affected, regardless if you're an American or not, acne may still affect you. Now, because acne is a very common skin condition, I am honestly astounded of the misinpterpretation and mistreatment done by most medical professionals. You see, the most common type of acne people experiences is the "ACNE VULGARIS". This bacterial inflammation is usually found on shoulders, back, face, neck and even chest which could sometimes be really painful with lesions. Now, when medical professionals tried different treatments and only to see it failed, your dermatologist might call your condition a "CHRONIC" condition. But the truth is, you've been undergoing the WRONG treatment! The root cause of your problem or acne has not been properly addressed.

One of the ROOT causes of acne is your DIET. It is a proven fact that most people suffering from acne are because of a diet high in sugar or refined carbohydrates. Second ROOT cause could be STRESS. Recent studies have indeed shown that stress can definitely cause and aggravate your acne condition. In other words, lifestyle is mostly the culprit and also the key to an acne free skin.

Your story is the story of my life. Almost exactly. One word: Accutane. You need it. At one point, I would wake up with nearly twenty full pimples every morning. Accutane absolutely wiped out my acne, granted it did leave scars. But I had a relapse as you might expect to. I'm back on it, and my acne never got quite...well, even close, to as bad as it once was. Now I know what you're thinking, this natural diet stuff is a bunch of horse manure. Even if it did work, it would take years. Talk to your dermatologist and get accutane. It will work. I didn thin anything could work, but it does. Every time. It does work.

accutane is not the answer for everyone....the side effects are major

quit dairy and wheat for one month and see what happens - those are the biggest triggers- give it one month and see what happens

I quit dairy and wheat for well over a month. It worsened my condition. Accutane usually does not have major side effects to be accurate. Unless you consider dry skin and dry lips major...? You will not get any bowel diseases, just minor gas while taking the medication. It's really not that bad. I've been on it twice. An if it helped me then it does work. My acne was probably worse than basically anyone has ever had. No lie.

Piggly, as everyone has stated, you have options. You may want to try natural and work your way to chemical stuff. Here is what you may want to try :1) diet changes (dairy free, gluten free AND/OR Paleo and natural skin care)2) The Regimen3) Prescription stuff including topical stuff/hormonal stuff)4) Accutane (as a last resort)Give your regimen 3-5 months before deciding if it works for you

Accutane, seriously. everyone freaks out over the horror stories but for most people the worst side effects will be dry skin and eyes. I've been on it twice.. my acne does come back but not nearly as bad. right now im using diet and vitamins to control what's left.
