Scaley Looking Skin

Hey, I was wondering if anyone ever used Sulfacet-R. It's a sulfacetamide sodium lotion. One of the ways it works is that it can cause the skin to peel. I've recently noticed that it made my some parts of my face look scaley and patchy, because the skin that would peel off is darker (brownish black) than my skin color. It's kinda annoying. I do use a moisturizer but I guess it doesn't help because it's very mattifying( I have very oily skin). What should I do?

Or, if you use something else that causes that scaley appearance, doesn't have to be Sulfacet-R.

Stella,

I use a facial cleanser containing sodium sulfacetimide 10% / sulfur 5%. It can be rather drying and it can cause my face to flake. When I remove "deeper" flakes the skin underneath is pinker than the surrounding area and a blotchy appearance can result. They way I have resolved the issue is to simply use the product less often. Actually the instructions on the bottle mentioned this too. Initially I used it twice daily (way too drying), then went to once daily (still a bit too drying). I now use the product once every other day and no longer have an issue. You may want to consider reducing your frequency of usage. Best wishes.

Thanks a lot, Torquemonster! I've been using it every night before bedtime. Now, I'll try doing it every other day.

I was just curious if the sodium sulfacetimide has been helping your condition. I have very sensitive skin and the cleanser I mentioned above did work very well to clear me up without irritating. Unfortunately I think the dryness / flakiness situation had gotten to the point where it was actually causing problems with new breakouts. Backing off on the frequency of use has helped me a lot.

yes, it has been helping me, but I also think that the dryness is causing new breakouts too, although less severe.

I will cut back on the usage and see how it goes. I've been applying a huge amount of it actually, maybe that's the problem.
