Is there a connection between our diet and acne? Let's know your take on this! *Moderator edit - URL removed - Read the board rules!*
There is most certainly a connection.
There's a lot of food out there that can be hard on the liver. When the liver is trying to deal with the toxins caused by a poor diet, it struggles to take full care of other organs in the body. The skin being the largest human organ, suffers the most from this.
By starting and maintaining a healthy diet, you're giving the liver less toxins to deal with, allowing it to carry out the jobs that its there to do, such as maintain healthy organs and repairing damage caused by free radicals.
Things such as drinking plenty of water throughout the day, cutting alcohol consumption, quitting smoking, avoiding certain dairy products and avoiding un-natural preservatives can have a dramatic effect on the skin within just a couple of weeks.
It requires consistency though and most people just aren't consistent enough.
For me, personally, my diet affects things like acne, depression, anxiety, mood, well-being, sex drive, and energy levels. Diet is important. Eating foods that I cannot tolerate (dairy, gluten, refined sugar) messes up my skin as well as other aspects of my body and life.
I would actually say generally not, as long as there's nothing wrong with your digestive system (which caneasily be damaged from things like too much pop, alcohol, junk food etc.) if you've ever been on a high dose course of antibiotics, you most likely have a damaged gut. (all those bacteria you've been assimilating since birth are there for reason, don't kill them unless 110% necessary.) Don't go on antibiotics for acne, unless you plan to stay on them for life. Don't worry about excessive hygiene, this will prevent you from assimilating the good bacteria that you need for good health.
Baily, do you get any other side effects from milk? Such as gas or a bloated stomach? Diahrea? Constipation? You probably have some sort of digestive issue with milk, and if your not lactose intolerant, just drink it whenever you normally would (maybe a little less) your system will eventually learn to digest it properly.
Funny some of you mention dairy products. I seem to have problems tied to cheese, say on pizza or tacos, that can really cause problems on the side of my face near the ears and along the jawbone. It does not happen every time (fortunately), but when it does, it happens with a vengeance.

It's possible that I do have a digestive issue with milk but when I do drink it (which is rare) I don't break out anywhere other than my chin and have no other side effects. Since I have switched to almond milk and cut back on cheese, ice cream, etc. I no longer deal with cystic pimples.
