I have really sore big pimples. They are getting worse. They last for a really long time and I don't even want to leave the house anymore. My skin is randomly getting really oily. So I have been using a clay mask nearly every day. I am just wondering if it is a bad idea to be using it every single day and if this could actually be doing me more harm than good?
Everyone has said not to go on antibiotics but everything I am trying is not working and it is just getting worse and worse and is starting to hurt more and more I feel like it is my only option now.
The clay mask could be irritating the skin more. Does it burn when you apply it to the skin? If you don't want to take antibiotics I suggest buying a bottle of probiotics, at least 10 billion organisms and start taking them daily. They sell them at most grocery and health food stores. I haven't had one bad pimple since doing this.
Applying a clay mask everyday will dry out your skin causing it to produce more oil and possibly more pimples. Once I left the clay mask on a few pimples over night and it burned my skin leaving bigger scabs. So, it is pretty powerful stuff. Once or twice a week would be okay more than that it could have some negative effects. If your skin is very oily make sure to use a toner without alcohol. Look into using an apple cider vinegar toner. It has taken away most of my oil and prevented new pimples from forming. Also, sometimes leaving our skin with some oil is good, we don't want our skin to be dehydrated and dry either.
Oh, and get blotting sheets for the excess oil. For the sore pimples try sulfur. De La Cruz sulfur ointment 10% will dry them up but not dry your skin out. Sulfur is great for acne.
Using a clay mask every night isn't going to help your acne. Try hibiclens wash. It works great and you can read reviews on here about it. The trick is to wash your face with it and let it set on the skin for a few minutes then wash it off. Don't use any acne topicals with the hibiclens just a light moisturizer. Hibiclens will fight bacteria for 6 hours.
If you decide to use this you'll see results in two weeks. You can find it at any pharmacy in the first aid section
Thank you for the replies. I had only been leaving it on for about 5 minutes. My skin hasn't dried out at all since using it. But I will definitely not continue to use it everyday as per your advice! I do have sensitive skin so most acne fighting products make my skin really red and itchy. I will look into each of your suggestions. thanks.
