Hey everyone, im a male and i have really bad cystic acne all over my body, mostly my upper chest, shoulders and back, sometimes i get it on my neck.. but the weird thing is my face is completely clear. I've had acne since i was 14yrs old.
I've been using cleansers and bp for months now and it doesnt seem to be helping.
Ive tried no dairy diets, no gluten diets, no egg diets, no refined sugar diets and why i have seen minor improvements, the cystic acne still remains.
I'm also taking zinc/milk thistle supplements
Medications im currently taking is 0.088mg of Synthroid/Levothyroxine for my Hypothyroidism.
So i guess my question is, why is my face clear but my body not? Could it be that my clothing is irritating my skin? maybe im allergic to a certain fabric?
thanks in advance
Different areas of our skin are at different thicknesses - our faces tend to be thinner, more permeable. Treatments tend to penetrate better there. We are also able to be more careful about what our faces are exposed to. So the irritation through shirts, leaning back on chairs, etc can definitely be a factor.
Body acne tends to be more stubborn that facial acne. I don't know why, exactly. I get body acne, too, and it always takes FOREVER for my topicals to improve it, even as my face responds inside of a few days.
We have had members report luck with using dandruff shampoo as a body wash - the medication in that is designed to help with uneven skin shedding. It might help. Cystic acne is a bit of a different creature, though, so hopefully another member with more experience will be able to hop in here and let you know more.
