Hey guys,
I used to use the Cetaphil cleanser back in high school but for the past 5-6 years I haven't used it at all. The only thing I'm doing to really "clean" my face right now is lightly scrubbing with an exfoliating brush that I use every other day in the shower.
Would you guys recommend I start using a cleanser again? My acne has started getting worse again because of winter, hence why I'm thinking maybe I should try to add something to my regimen. I do have a fairly oily face which is why I'm thinking about adding this.
Thanks.
I've found that using a cleanser (one that cuts out grease and oil specifically - I have oily skin, too) is imperative. Just using water doesn't seem to do anything but move the grime around. Topical treatments are also less able to permeate the skin when it's not properly cleaned. (Think about how well lotion would absorb on dirty hands.)
I think it depends on how dirty your skin is feeling!
Recently, I switched to using ceraVe's foaming cleanser for oily to normal skin and it works pretty well! However, it's important not to over wash your skin, because removing all the oil and disrupting the acid mantle can lead to more bacteria and pimples, especially during winter. This is what happened to me!
Now I use ceraVe cleanser in the morning and just wash my skin with warm water with a little sea salt at night. (or just wipe my face with witch hazel and skip washing.) Then I apply a apple cider vinegar toner with water and a drop or so of tea tree oil. The ACV will restore the skin's natural pH allowing it to protect itself from harmful bacteria. Plus, the tea tree oil has anti-bacterial properties for an added bonus! Read up on the benefits of this toner Lastly, I'll just take a couple drops of jojoba oil and pat into my skin. Be gentle with your skin and you won't be disappointed! good luck!
