I Wish I Could Have A Life Beyond Acne

I'm 24 years old now and I've been struggling non-stop since I was 13 years old. I have spent thousands of dollars on makeup and treatments. I've refused pictures and had no social life because of my face. I sometimes pick at my acne though I hate to admit it, it drives me nuts and now I'm beginning to get scars.

People call me beautiful but I can't bring myself to believe them because I see all the imperfections. I've tried to get over it and ignore it and "just be myself" but I can't.

I miss having confidence, I miss going to the beach and swimming and not having to worry about how the water might wash off my makeup and show my hideous acne to the world. I want to be able to kiss a guy without pulling away, worried that he may see my flaws. I don't want to cringe when a guy tries to touch my face.

I'm so tired of hiding!

I've tried everything... Went without makeup all summer, changed my diet, drank more water, tried acne free, clearasil, clinique,

walgreens bp, equate products, proactiv, burt's bees, cetaphil, sea breeze, zinc, tea tree oil, vinegar, jojaba oil, egg whites, vitamin e, lemon juice, honey, asprin, mud masks, mario badescu, H2O skincare, queen helene masque, zapzyt, aha, acne relief, basis, skin food, oatmeal, thyme, mary kay, neutrogena, oxy, physicians formula, jasons, clean and clear, carleys, garnier, alba botanica, biore, st. ives, acne.org regimin, and so SO many more.

I'm just tired.

I'm 25 and have had acne since I was 12 so I know how you feel, all of us feel that way. I envy people who never have to worry about their skin, it's not fair. I hate kissing a guy having to worry about my makeup rubbing off. What sort of diet changes have you done? What supplements have you tried taking?

I've tried most of the recommended natural supplements, zinc, garlic, vitamin e, vitamin d and many others. Diet just cutting out sugars and dairy and harmful fat foods. Though changing my diet didn't really change anything for me. My acne goes from moderately bad to horrendous during "that time of the month." But I always have something wrong.

So have you tried a birth control pill then?

Have you ever had a jessner peel? It's supposed to help acne.

You are not alone. So many of us have tried everything under the sun and still wake up to the crushing defeat of acne. We have a support forum here, Emotional and Psychological Affects of Acne. http://www.acne.org/messageboard/index.php/forum/10-emotional-and-psychological-effects-of-acne/ It's one of my favorite parts of this site. Having people to share it all with is invaluable.

Yes I just started birth control about two months ago, seeing if that will help too.

Have you been to a dermatologist? If not, please do so! You may have a resistant strain of P. acnes or not acne at all, possibly a kind of foculitis or have a different kind of bacteria on your skin. Also, you may not be applying ingredients properly or most effectively, and a dermatologist can guide you and customize your treatments the best. I can't emphasize enough how important visiting a dermatologist is if you've tried various OTC remedies to no sucess.
