Hey everyone,
So my girlfriend is having a problem. She was one of these people who had perfect skin their whole life, and got to college in a place with different water and her skin freaked out. She got severe eczema, but got it under control with desidine for her face, and standard steroid cream for her body. During this time she started getting mild acne on her face. Well for the past almost 2 years other than the occasional mild acne breakout around her period, she was good. This past week her face started getting red and dry again. Her derm 2 years ago said it was eczema, but it doesn't look like it to me (I have had eczema on my face before). She still gets small whiteheads where the eczema is which is on her cheeks and chin and temples and this seemed odd for regular eczema. The "eczema" looks like rough inflamed skin, that occasionally peels, but it isn't in patches like eczema rather just a rash that cover the whole area. It's not horrible or anything, but she's concerned it will get worse like it did 2 years ago. Any recomendations?
She was using proactiv off and on to battle the mild acne, but has stopped that (thank god proactiv is garbage)
She never used a moisturizer, and would CeraVe foaming facewash at night.
She did wear makeup all this past weekend for her interview, so I believe this contributed (she uses liquid foundation which from what I understand is vastly inferior to powder for people with these skin problems).... I have 2 sisters so I do know a little about makeup lol.
over my past 4 years or so on this site ive become pretty good about skincare. I've used everything for my moderate acne, and kept it under control. I did bit the bullet about 6 months ago and took accutane with great results so ive been around the block. I'm not the expert on facial eczema though seeing as mine was mild and went away with extra moisturizing.
Here is what I was thinking as a regimen for her as she really doesn't have one:
-CeraVe Gentle Facewash at Night
-DML moisturizer (thats what I use) day and night
-desidine as needed for bad spots on face
Another product Ive used on my body is CeraVe Cream in the tub, but I'm worried something that thick will aggravate acne on her face.
Any eczema sufferers out there who can help please chime in. She doesn't know a lot about skin care and is really down that her eczema is coming back. Any help is appreciated!
she should see a doctor or a derm because it could be dermatitis.i got mine from using a new cleanser and then from being allergic to hair dye and i got a red rash that started around my mouth and then spread to my entire face. it has what looked like white heads in the middle of the red spots but you cant pop them because nothing will come out. they are very itchy and it makes me skin feel very rough and scaly. my derm had me try a sulfur wash that i was allergic to but then they gave me nizoral shampoo to use on my face and it has cleared up a lot but your gf will have to get this from a doctor. they also had me try desonide cream but it made things worse and gave me acne as well. so definitely tell your gf to get checked out so she can get rid of this. ooh i am on a high dose of antibiotics as well.

Thanks for the reply! That's so funny cuz after doing more research i thought the same thing about dermatitis. She also started dying her hair at the begining of college so maybe that caused it as well for her. What he has sounds a lot like what you said. Thanks again for your help!
anytime if you need anything else you can email me on here as well. i know for me i never had an allergy to hair dye ever in my life and i have been dying it for over 20 years. it just came on suddenly which made it even more strange. i took zyrtec or benadryl for the itching and then am on 100mg of doxy twice a day as well as the nizoral face wash and clindamycin topical lotion.
