Hi new to here and was after some advice! For the last 18 months I have been struggling with what has been diagnosed as folliculitis/adult acne. I have been on two courses of Flucloxacillin, first worked second didn't. I have now been prescribed Lymecycline and am not very optimistic it will work. Has anyone had success with this ant biotic.I use to be very out going 38 year old but have had to grow a beard to cover the cysts and feel paranoid around other people, have even stopped the gym as the sweat sometimes aggravates the situation. My family say its not bad but obviously it is not them who have to deal with it. I had acne as a teen and had to go on a course of accutane. I use BP on cysts but with minimum effect, wash with Quinoderm face wash and use Aqeous cream moisteurizer, which has helped and have cut out sugar, alcohol, coffee etc but everyday a new cyst pops up!! Anyone got any ideas??
Did you know that one of the most effective at home treatment for folliculitis is Betadine antiseptic? Betadine is a surgical prep scrub. It kills ALL BACTERIA, FUNGI, AND PROTOZOA within 90 seconds of contact. These organisms cannot become immune to Betadine's mechanism.
I learned about this when I had a dog with folliculitis. This is what vets do for dogs with folliculitis. Regularly treatment twice a day usually clears it up in 2 weeks. I was curious and asked my derm about it, and he said that for true folliculitis it can work on humans as well.
You can get Betadine at WalMart for $6. Apply it, leave it on for a full 90 seconds, rinse. The downside is it leaves an orange stain that doesn't fade for about 30 minutes, so you can't just slather some on before you walk out the door.
