Yea they would have told you if it was staph. I've had a face full of those before. Lot of people call it cystic acne. It's most likely an abscess since that's what cystic acne is anyway. Best thing is to go to a doctor or if you can't treat it yourself. Do what I recommended above. It will either shrink and go away completely or come to a head. You can drain it yourself. Just make sure your hands are clean and the surrounding area as well. Do not take just any ol' antibiotic. If you have antibiotics left over from the last time you went to the doctor for this, take them.
I doubt they tested it for staph in the ER. This is the sort of cyst you have to go to a doctor to get removed; i would not try to remove it or drain it yourself because these kinds of cysts can often become recurrent. Or maybe they are just prone to being recurrent anyways; either way, you will have better luck treating it if you see a derm or your gp. Lol, I feel for you though because this really makes me want to pop it (how sick is that?).
i dont think its staff because when i went to the er they would have told me right? would antibiotics help it?
I've had a few of those. It's pretty embarrassing.
did you find out what it was?
Yeah I've squeezed a few of them over the years. Only when they have a white head or appear to have a hole on top though. Even then I don't recommended it as I do have scars. Most of the time a lot of blood and pus and shit is gonna come out of it. Only ONE time ever I had one that squeezed out clear gelatin looking shit and I kinda freaked out a bit. Back then I did not have health insurance or thought about going to the doctors. But they can inject you with something that helps with the swelling and if it doesn't go down they make a tiny incision and squeeze everything out.
Try de la Cruz 10% sulfur ointment. It will demolish that bad boy. I used to get huge cysts like this and it was a bitch, but sulfur really works. Don't squeeze it will leave a scar if you fuck with it. I have severe scarring from this just trying to help you out in the long run.
Nilrem I would definitely take advil! This looks so painful and it will help with the swelling that trying to pop it caused. I used to take advil all the time--along with antibiotics and even accutane--and I never got "leaky gut." I really wouldnt worry about that right now... If it doesn't go away and is still this swollen within a week or two I would definitely go to a derm to get it taken care of. I don't think it would cost over $200 (probably less) to make an apt with a private derm to have it drained or injected, so if you have a job it would be doable. Last time i went to a private derm that wasn't covered by my insurance they charged me about $89 for the apt (though they did not inject or drain anything). I emailed a dr through their site (i had never heard of them) and told them that I wasn't covered but desparately wanted an apt and they said they'd give me a discount (lol, seems debatable now, but they were nonetheless affordable). Just make sure the doctor knows you're paying out of pocket so they can give you an estimate before they do anything.
It looks like a Sebaceous Cyst which is pretty common so don't feel bad. But DON'T try to fix it by yourself because it's not just a pimple, it's a pore that has become clogged with dead skin cells and oil from your sebaceous gland and it appears to be pretty infected under the skin. I know it's tempting to pierce it with a needle... but when you do, you're also opening up Pandora's Box and potentially spreading a bad ass infection throughout the the rest of your face. And no, the ER isn't going to test for MRSA, STAPH, or bloodborne pathogens unless they have a specific reason. I would take some advil to help with the swelling and pain, and go see a Doc. And TELL THE DR. that you want a steroid injection for the swelling, ask for a specific diagnosis, and make sure that you get a treatment plan to resolve the problem because the injection will only make the swelling go away this time.
