Acne Caused By Birth Control?

Does anyone else only get acne when they're on the pill? I always had either clear skin or light acne that responded really well to Proactive or cheap drugstore face washes, but every time I start a new birth control, I break out like crazy! I've taken Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and regular Ortho Tri Cyclen and would have 2 weeks of acne and 2 weeks of clear skin, but developed stomach problems and had to switch to a lower dose pill, so I started Loestrin 24 fe and have never had such consistantly awful skin in my life!!! I've taken it for 2 1/2 months and have gotten these weird mirror image blothches of cyctic acne under my cheekbones and on either side of my chin--it's like a pimple beard! It's not responding to anything and I have extremely pale and sensitive skin, so I have to be careful with topicals. I'm considering Spiro, but I'm worried about stomach problems like the ones I had on antibiotics and also that I'd have to take it forever. Any suggestions from anyone?! I'm losing my mind!!!

Hi,

you are not the only one who had this problem. I just switched from Loestrin 24 because it caused me the worst acne of my life!! This is by FAR the WORST birth control EVER!! The first few months were fine until I started getting the worst acne of my life! It was worse than when I was in Highschool! Even Antibiotics (Septra) did not help, my face literally looked like a Vulcano and those cystic pimples all around my chin hurt so bad!! I now switched to Necon, it is higher in estrogen (0.035 compared to loestrin at 0.025) and my face is finally starting to clear up. However, I'm 29 years old and my skin does not heal as good as it used to as a teenager so now I have all these ugly acne scars on my face, probably for life! If you are still taking this pill, please take my advice and get off of it as soon as possible! It will make your acne ten times worse than it was in your teenage years! Bottom line, this pill makes you depressed and gives you bad acne! Stay away from it!!

Try spiro! Just read a really great post from green gables on here about spiro.

Thanks! Septra always works for me but this time it was hormonal related since this horrible birth control pill actually got androgen progestins (Norethindrone) which trigger acne! whenever the norethindrone (androgen progesteron) is much higher than the estradiol (estrogen) stay away from it! Tell your doctor you want an anti-androgen progestin birth control pill.
