I put some Witch Hazel (sp?) on it using a little cotton ball. It usually stops the cyst right in it's tracks. It doesn't really go away, but it doesn't grow anymore and it becomes less red.

I tried this when I first felt a big cyst under my skin, I put some on and the next morning it was completely gone.

You guys make me feel so much better! I go for months and don't pick then I will have one starting just when I have something special to attend. So I will pick at it and make it SO much worse. Right now I have a round "hole" just like you described, right on my lower cheek. Every night I think it is looking better and every morning I am disappointed. Then I start getting obsessive about it and it gets so I don't even want to go out or be seen.

I've got to stop picking. It never turns out well and I should know better by now.

UGH!!

Guys, ALL you need to do is disolve some epsom salt in hot water and use a wash cloth to apply to the cyst for several minutes to draw out the infection which will make it stop hurting right away and reduce redness and irritation. Following, apply a wet, hot tea bag to the bump for 10 minutes or so to clean out the bacteria. DO NOT pop it. That will just spread the bacteria to the pores around the cyst. Allow it to heal and it will be gone in a day or so.

Oh I wish it was that simple lol mine last for MONTHS, I'm talking anywhere from 2-9 months, they're big and painful. I've done all that home remedy shit and it doesn't work. Go to the derm and get a Cortisone injection... that's the ONLY thing that gets rid of them quickly.

I posted on here awhile ago - and I have STILL found that drying them from the inside out (not popping them, since true cystic pimples will not pop) is the way to go. I usually wash my face gently - and then soak the cystic area with a tissue doused with isopropyl alcohol (70 percent) and just hold it on the spot for about 5 minutes (no rubbing, just soak the area) and within a few days - the spot will dry up from the inside out - and slowly become nothing but a dry area on your face - which will flake off.

This is if you leave it alone. If you try to squeeze it at all - you will get a huge red sore - which will get you nowhere, but a more noticable zit. Leaving it alone and healing it from within lessens the chance of a scar. I've had 13+ cysts in one area - and it took me a long, long time to learn to leave it alone. It's hard, but it's the best.

Just a question, but if you have the cyst for a couple weeks and get a cortisone injection, is it more likely to have an indent afterwards as opposed to getting a "fresh" one injected? The one I have now has gotten smaller but it's still there, and I worry if it doesn't go away if I should just do the shot.

I'm new here and i've been getting cysts along my jawline for about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks now. I'm using proactiv but it really isn't helping much. Does anyone have an idea as to why the cysts are only along my jawline? I've never had acne like this before.

Same problem here. I have a perfect storm. My cycling helmet straps caused a break in the skin. While starting a new job at the same time the food at the cafeteria was so greasy I didn't notice it. Overnight I got 3 cysts on each side of my jawline under the ear. I have one cyst on my forhead near my hariline. Another is on my cheek closer to my eye. Another is on the other cheek closer to my lip. I've been applying sulfur clay and 10% benzoyl peroxide (face wash but I dab it on). Lots of drying and peeling but these suckers aren't going away. I'm one week into it. I've never had acne this bad...and I'm 24 getting acne still!

@cyclist...try being 31 and having the same problem!

I'm on Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo, which helps with most of the cysts. I had to skip a month of pills due to not being able to get a prescription from my gyno, and you could tell it by looking at my chin. Covered in cysts.

I generally get the cysts right under my nose. It's SO painful due to the area. I'm trying to get rid of one now. A lot of times they seem to pop up overnight. I did the cold compress for awhile and put some Neosporin on it. I'll do hot ones later and put some more BP on it. I also have very fair skin that shows every zit and scar. Ugh.

I feel your pain... I have 4 right now and I had this problem last year and they went away for the most part, got one here and there now and then.. I was going crazy trying to get rid of them. Not a fan of antibiotics, AT ALL!! I was on them for 4 months and i would have between 6-12 cystic pimples at a time during taking them. Finally I got so fed up with doctors and stupid creams that I went crazy searching for natural remedies. I had cystic pimples between my eyes, on my chin and jaw line, my cheeks, and even my forhead occasionally. It was the most embarassing time of my life and now they are haunting me again!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I learned that between the eyes is usually related to, as someone mentioned, liver problems, (often caused by alcohol, which i've been drinking more than usual and now they are back :( ) Hormones, stress, and adrenal glands. So they are the main causes of acne (talked to a lady at whole foods who studied skin for 4 years and she gave me all the possibilities) then it was just a matter of trial and error. Im thinking this time its hormonal related cause that is what causes chin cystic acne. (have 3 on my chin/jaw line and 1 between my eyes right now)

Agreed its important to cleanse tweasers and makeup brushes before use. But that wasnt helping me the first time around (havent been doing it this time around so that may be the issue)

OK! now the real talk, here are the remedies the woman at whole foods gave me.... (i carry this in my wallet, so its there when i have these problems again, hahahah)

1. DIM (diindolymethane) can be found at health store, just ask for someones help, this is for hormone imbalance.

2. Hair skin Nail formula with MSM (again ask someone at the store to show you where that is)

3. Liver cleanse (this is what worked for me the first time, but you have to eat healthy too!!! you cant go eat Mcdonalds or greasy food after this, eat lots of fruits and veggies!!!)

4. Some kind of anti stress (EXAMPLE: Holy basil, or L-Theanine)

5. If none of that works try some kind of adreanal support

So Im going to the store to get DIM, because i think this time its hormonal effected, but the horrible thing is it takes foreverrr (each thing takes about 2-3 weeks to finish the supply, do not take them all at once cause then you dont know what the issue was to begin with) So if im wrong im gunna go with liver cleanse cause it helped last time, but do them all separtely!!

If you are gunna do something silly like take antibiotics buy some probiotics too or it will just make the acne worse and kill the good bacteria in your belly!!

As for things to help daily, I would hold my face over boiling water (for the steam) with a rag over my face to trap in the moisture to open my pours, then I'd use BRAGGS organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar and apply it to affected areas with cotton ball, also used lemon. As for pain.... never found anything.. just had to deal with horrible face pain so please let me know if you guys have found something that helps for the face pain!!

Hope I helped!!

Yeah your 24, well I am 34 and still getting breakouts since I was 24, so I would assume if you got adult acne it will continue into your thirtys and fortys if you don't find a regimen that truly gets to the root of your acne.

I get these types of cystic spots whenever im on my period, so i know how to deal with them. If you take the homeopathic remedy Hepa Sulph (available from Helios) every half an hour this will take the swelling down in about two days (seriously this is the only medication which works for my cystic acne and i have tried every doctors cream in the book). If you have popped it and the scab looks infected, apply a large dollop of pure aloe vera gel on it and wait for it to soften the scab, the aloe vera seems to bring all the pus to the surface of the scab whilst softening the scab, then you can almost scrape out the pus and leave the aloe vera on to let it heal with out forming another hard scab. This is honestly the only actual advice that works.

Should I stop using warm compresses then? Because ice would have the opposite effect?

The skin has sort of scabbed over since I picked it and now it's a painful, dry, hard...extremely red spot. You're right, it's infected :( I woke up today and I think I can see a head starting to form? I might be delusional but I swear there's some pus under the scab now.

It's so hard to fight the urge to try and pop it.......I've never NOT popped a cystic pimple. I feel like they never ever ever ever go away if I don't. Ahh! I'm fighting the urge. It's so hard now that there's the possibility of an actual head forming!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread! I've had some awful cysts on my left-hand jawline/neck, over the last month or so? Never experienced anything like it in ages, as soon as one went (yes, through popping/squeezing I'm afraid) another would surface, then anything. I'm left with so many red/brown patches. Last night after a few other were scabbing up, I noticed two more that had been there for a while but never came to a head. One was hurting, the other not so much, but stupidly I decided to try squeezing both, through annoyance and OCD I guess. And, of course, made them SOOOOOOO much worse. They didn't pop. Just bled. But I kept picking, hoping to extract something out of them, all I got was the clear gunk - the one that hurt originally is now slightly scabby, the one that wasn't now is and hurts like hell, is huge and red, and they're RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER, so it looks totally gross. Then of course I have my other spots from the previous month, and it's just pretty damn depressing really.

Anyway, just thought I'd try and add something. The main thing of course being LEAVE THEM CYSTS ALONE. I'm pretty sure if I just let them dry out, they'd have gone. But I couldn't help picking, we all know the feeling. But also, when it gets to the dry/scabby phase, I usually apply lots of concealer, especially at night, and this really dries them up, then after three or four days of NOT PICKING THE SCAB (again, usually a challenge and I admit I do cave too soon a lot of the time) you're left with pinkish/reddish but SMOOTH skin. Then if you can, just keep putting concealer on, or lemon juice etc to help improve the discolouration. I know it's a bit odd for guys to wear concealer, but if you make it just look like dry skin you can usually get away with it, have been since I was fourteen!
