not sure what they are, you don't notice them unless you look really close up or in certain lighting, but my entire face is covered in them, they seem to be mainly flesh coloured but many are red.

Clogged pores (comedones) or folliculitis of bacterial or other origin, etc. There are many treatment options depending on what the flesh colored bumps really are. Do a bit of research on folliculitis and comedonal acne. If you want a real diagnosis, I'd suggest going to a derm for a consultation if you can afford it. If not, trial and error will help you determine the right course of action for your particular case of acne. Please remember there are no quick fixes. If something does not work in a week...that's normal.

Some find benefit from using a medicated dandruff shampoo. I like Selsun blue, personally, the two in one conditioner/shampoo one and other people like Head and Shoulders. Some benefit from Nizoral. Benefit depends on what type of acne or folliculitis you have; fungal responds to Nizoral. Bacterial responds to either H&S or Selsun Blue.

Some like MaMa lotion, some like other mandelic preparations. Some (like me) like glycolic acid. You can see what I use with great effectiveness in my signature. The added benefit of glycolic acid for me is that it also 'rejuvenates' the skin and makes it 'glow.' There are many other treatments for the type of acne you describe. They revolve around chemical and/or mechanical exfoliation. Persons who are prone to acne seem to have impaired skin cell shedding and perhaps even more viscous than normal sebum. Topicals can and do help.

Good luck!

Actually just wanted to add that fungal folliculitis also responds to Selsun Blue (and possibly H&S). Selsun Blue contains zinc pyrithione and selenium sulfide, both of which have antifungal properties. I believe H&S contains zinc pyrithione too.

there were times where i'd just let the head and shoulders from my hair run over my face and that really helped my skin, but after a while it stopped working.

i tried directly applying it to my skin once but that didn't help too much, any suggestions on application?

and holy shit, i just looked on google and folliculitis is exactly what's up with my face. i went from moderate acne to folliculitis, weird.

I'm pretty sure I have the exact same thing you're talking about. I have the pimple-bump things all over my forehead, sides of face, even behind my ears. Also, they're all flesh colored. Right now I'm on a regimen of 5% BP cleanser (Benzagel), 10% Glycolic Acid Toner (DFF), and just a simple Marcelle moisturizer.

I'm fairly certain that the BP cleanser is preventing me from actually having any larger pimples like ones I used to get. From a distance and even in most photographs my skin looks clear. It's when you look close you can tell that all these bumps are there.

I don't really know what to do. Just go see a dermatologist?

I had horrible comedonal acne with little flesh colored bumps all over my face. I have been on Retin-A for almost two months now, and it has gotten a lot better. No more flesh colored bumps

Me too! Weird how so many people have experienced this.. Like if our skin can't have pimples on it (because of topicals or whatever we may be using) it has to be ugly in some kind of way...Damn skin!

Anywho I remember when i first started RetinA, H&S was one of the things i used along with j&J head to toe and clinque wash. I was really clear i'm definetely gonna try it again...

I went to the doctor yesterday because I can not afford a dermatologist right now But when I did go to the dermatologist he gave me differin and that made my face too irritated. Then the next time I went he gave me Clindamycin lotion and doxycycline but that did not work either. When I went to the doctor yesterday he gave me clindamycin gel instead of lotion and he told me to try the antibiotic doxycycline again so I am going to do that. I want to try retin a but I am afraid it will irritatate my skin too much. Oh and these little bumps seem to be getting worse in the heat.

My cheeks feel more irritated on tingly and its getting on my nerves lol.

It sounds like a a really bad derm/docter you have there if it turns out to be a folliculitis. The obvious signs of folliculitis is the itching first of all and then the fact that it gets worse in high tempratures, does not respond or worsens to acne treatment, appears after a long period of antibiotics, appears on chest/back/neck/forehead or just near hairline ect..

It sounds like it could be a folliculitis you have, and I suggest you either ask your derm to do a test in order to see if your blemishes are caused by fungal or acne bacteria. Or you go out and buy some anti-fungal stuff and experiment yourself (this is probably the easier choice and fairly cheap). You can begin with the dandruff shampoo Nizoral which has an anti-fungal active ingredient. It should be easy to get. Lather up in shower, apply, wait about 5 minutes and rinse off. Some believe it is best to start off doing it twice a day for the first week and then maybe a couple of times a week the following time while others think it's best to start off slow and do it the other way around. It's up to you, good luck :)

Letting it run down your face sure will help, but probably wont clear it for good. And yes, they can stop working if your body grows accustomed to it. Therefore it is recommended that you have 2 kinds of anti-fungal products and that you combine those two.

So your body grew accustomed to H&S - that doesn't matter, there are plenty of choices. You can begin with the Nizoral dandruff shampoo and try applying from the beginning this time. As I wrote earlier; lather up in shower, apply(be gentle), wait about 5 minutes (some leave it on for 2 minutes and some leave it on for 30 - I think 5 minutes is the best amount of time though. Never leave it on over-night.) and then rinse off.

Good luck :)

bufas Thank you for your reply but I thought it was folliculitis at one point but after doing research I figured out it was not because Them bumps are red and mine are just skin colored none of them are red in color and it seems like there is no head on them like there is no possible way for me to pop them they are so small but there are so many of them that's why I stress out so much about it.myface222-1.jpg

above is a picture of my face but it is all over my forehead too

I have tried differin cream and doxyxyxline and clindamycin lotion and none of that worked so right now I am washing my face with neutrogena fragerence free bar and then using neutrogena oil free moisturizer for combination skin both are hypoallergenic and the doctor told me to try doxycycline again so I am and I also take probiotics everyday I just started that 2 weeks ago because someone told me it might help and I started ortho tri cyclin birth control 3 weeks ago.

i get these when i have either overexfoliated or used a product that didnt agree with my skin. what works for me is just using a gentle cleanser until they go away.

barbiegirl, I would STOP the Neutrogena bar soap! Bar soaps have a high pH which encourages bacteria growth. Bar soaps clog pores too. Use a liquid facial cleanser instead.

I just started using the bar like 3 days ago so I know that is not the cause of my acne but I might stop using it anyways.

Here is a link to pictures of my skin If anyone can look and tell me if they have anything like this or if they know exactly what it is I woulda appreciate it very much.

it's caused by little plugs in your pores. exfoliation with glycolic acid should help to resolve it over time. you are a beautiful girl.

I am glad to see I am not the only one who suffers from this. I have tiny .. almost goose bump like bumps all over my face. 2 years ago, they were only at the corners of my mouth.. by the time I had moved to a different part of Vancouver Island they had spread from my mouth area, to the rest of my face. So here is my story:

My memory is faint, but they were not all over my face before, when I had noticed them, I had figured using my regular routine would get rid of them. False. When I had my wisdom teeth removed, my face was fat and painful and I was unable to wash or pick at my face (I OCD pick at my face.) therefore making it impossible to do anything to my face, so I just used Ivory soap to wash my face. THEN when the swelling on my face from the wisdom teeeth extraction had gone completely away, I noticed I had clear skin. Voila? So that may be my solution. HOWEVER! I had picked at my face when I was able to again, and then it went back to how shitty it was before. Prom is in 6 months, so I am trying anything to get clear skin. I have tried:

-ALL Neutrogena products.

-ALL Clean n' Clear.

-ALL Avene' products.

-ALL Aveeno.

- (getting to lazy to type ALL, all the time.)

-Also have used:

-Spectro Products

-Asprin Masks

-Lush Facial care

-Over the counter BP, SA.

-Clearasil Products

-Proactive (JOKE PRODUCT, MAKE THE BUMPS RED AND INFLAMMED! FUCK MY LIFE!)

..the list goes on.

REFUSE TO USE ACCUTANE!

I have noticed that Stievamycin is shrinking the bumps, but their not going completely away. Mind you, I am not patient and 2 days seems like 5 decades to me. And when I lived in my previous town, and only had them around my mouth, I used the Stievamycin as well, and It seemed to keep things under control. I am now going to start Tetracycline, and will post results.. if anything is showing, within the next few weeks. ALSO let me note this:

Do not pick at your face.

Do not stress over your face.

Be nice to your skin, don't over process it. (Like dying your hair 5 times a day.)

We see things worse in our own eyes then they actually are, so its not AS BAD AS YOU SEE IT AS!

So heres my conclusion for these EVIL bumps:

Be nice. Use ivory soaps (reg. unscented.) and a PERSCRIPTION topical cream or gel for every second day BEFORE BED.

I have not seen a dermatoligist, so if someone has PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT THESE BUMPS. Retin-A I have not tried yet, but is thinking that is next if these Acne Oral Medication does not work.

DONT DONT DONT DONT PICK at your skin. I just picked at mine and I KNOW I will regret it in the morning.

Be patient. Nothing is over night, nothing happens within a week, nothing will be a miracle. It takes 3-6 weeks for bacteria to die off (Doctor told me this today, don't need to be a Derm to know that.)

About 2 years ago (When I turned 15) I started developing these tiny bumps.. almost like a non-red rash around the corners of my mouth. Mom pointed them out when I was yawning, and I didn't think much of it then. Figured it was irritation from the toothpaste when I brushed my teeth. However, boy was I wrong. It's been a year, and those tiny little flesh colored bumps that I "didn't think much of" have now decided to over take my whole face. I'm talking about cheeks, forehead, chin, nose. They are everywhere. Frankly, I'm sick of them. Within the past year, I have tried Head & Shoulders shampoos, Clean and Clear, Neutrogena, Aveeno, Glycerin Soaps, Burts Bees, Pro Active, etc etc etc. Any of it work? NOT AT ALL. They all helped wonderfully for my larger, red pimples, but did NOTHING for these pain in the %#*(%# ass bumps. So, I started using the new French Line Avene Thermal products for acne. Now, it's been 2 months since I've used the whole regimen without spazzzing and changing my regimen to something else. And I think being on a strict regimen helped because it de-confused my skin, so it was freaking out less. However, the bumps are not gone. They've shrunk considerably in size, but have not disappeared.

They look like this, but SMALLER:

(Hope that link works for everyone.)

But mine are more... closer together, and a LOT MORE OF THEM. (grr)

Now, I have had my fair share of emotional breakdown, skipping school, avoiding boys, turning down dates, etc etc etc due to my lack of self esteem from these bumps. I live in British Columbia, which means our waitlist to see a Derm is peaking a year right now. And frankly, Graduation is in 2 months and I'm not waiting a year to get clear skin. I have already driven 16 hours to go see specialists who told me "Oh its just teenager acne, you'll grow out of it." Yeah buddy, well watch me stab you in the face while attempting to pop this non-acne bump. IDIOTS! So after much frustration, I found this website, and it seems like a LOT of people suffer from these itty bitty flesh colored bumps. Which makes me feel a little better knowing I am not alone. Doesn't make me feel better though that these bumps continue to murder my social life. I do not feel pretty, I do not feel happy, I have just recently been diagnosed with chronic depression. Why? Due to the fact that NO ONE seems to know the stupid cause or cure to these tiny bumps. So, My solution: Since I live so close to a major city (Vancouver) I plan on driving there tomorrow, sitting in a Dermatoligists office, till they give me a legit reason as to what these things are. So congratulations to those whom have figured out a cure for their bumps. I have not. I have tried All the shampoos, creams, cleansers, exfoliators, spa facials, toners, AHA's, BHA's, Retin-A etc. None of that crap worked for me. I am getting fairly upset, and bummed out about this.

Everyone check out my blog, as I have posted all about my story on there, and I will update it in about 2 weeks regarding whether or not my trip to the derm and my other methods of getting rid of these idiot things have made progress. If you have any questions about products, creams, etc feel free to email me at [Removed] as I have tried (no joke) every product on the market. (I honestly wrote down all the products i've tried. Which, if you take that list to a drug store, is every acne/skincare product a drug store sells. - my mom hates me for how much money she's spent.)

Here are some things I plan on trying within the next 3 weeks:

-Derm, AGAIN!

-Continuing with my Avene regimen as it does help me a lot with the actual acne-problem parts.

Going tanning! I know everyone is against leathery skin, but tanning does actually get hot enough to open the pores, and your black heads (because they are dirt) dry up and fall out pretty much. Trust me people, i've gone to mexico a thousand times. If you have blackheads, go tanning. You'll never see them again.

-Face steaming.

I workout on a regular basis, and always have, so for those of you who think this might be from not having a healthy life style, I promise you, I drink 5L of water a day, I do NOT eat junk food what so ever. I actually am one of the rare people who get their daily servings of grain, fruit, veggies, and dairy a day. (Scary right?) and I workout for an hour a day. (Beachbody Insanity ftw baby!) I have the MOST healthiest lifestyle you could possibly imagine. I get 8 hours of sleep a night, I eat 3 times a day, I workout, I take vitamins, I don't touch my face unless I have clean hands. I'm a health nut. So WHY AM I BLESSSED WITH THIS HIDEOUS BUMPY FACE?! I believe we should all have godly faces, and not have to deal with these horrible acne problems.

Anyways, rant over. That's my story. Like I said, check my blog fluently for updates on my bumpy problem, as I will probably update it every 2nd day, as I do maintain a very busy lifestyle. And for all of you teenagers out there, Yes, I am 17, and I hope to GOD this is just a hormonal thing that will go away when I hit 18, or at least slowly clear up when I turn 18. We'll see. Check my blog bi-day for updates and email if you have any questions on anything, as I am theee product guinea pig. Peace out ALLLLLLL. May clear skin be with you. (May the force be with you?)

i'm no expert but i have a few suggestions to make. i have successfully cured these bumps on my skin.

I had this problem on my face. It all started 6 months ago and after LOT of experimentations and disasters with various products and medications i finally cured or healed (actually got rid of) all these'tiny bumps'(or in most cases whiteheads on my face.

apart from whatever medication and topicals you are using on your skin, please also do remember that the most important thing for you to do is first to treat the active acne on your skin. in most cases, if it pains when you touch it, its active and dangerous. start worrying about these comparatively less harmful form of acne(whiteheads) when you cure the inflamed ones.

Now, the tiny bumps. yes they are irritating and ugly, but not as much as the inflamed ones. so make sure that you dont mess it all up by inflaming them. last think you want is them to turn red n full of pus.

here it comes- 'USE THE WHITEHEAD AND BLACKHEAD REMOVER TOOL'

Its a pen like think with a small hole at one end. i'm sure you have seen it in beauty parlours. USE IT.

steam your face and then use this tool to remove all your tiny bumps by squeezing out the malicious pus inside of them. be gentle. gone hurt your skin. for better extraction you can fill your mouth with air so that your cheeks bulge out and its easier to extract the pus inside the whitehead. BE CAREFUL to not irritate the really really small ones(whiteheads/tiny bumps) cuz the pus inside of them is not yet ready to be extracted. wait till they grow (which they wont if you use the thinnest possible layer of benzoyl peroxide on your face regularly).

yes and thats it. if you cant seem to do it urself den go to a parlour.

for me atleast i wont let anyone exert pressure on my skin other than myself since i know when it pains and i can immediately stop.

DONT FORGET TO STEAM YOUR FACE BEFORE DOING THIS.

It worked like a charm for me. Honestly. after doing this i hated myself for using so many chemicals on my face. these whiteheads dont go easily or soon even with a BP regimen.

Note- After the extraction your tiny bump will turn red or pink depending on how much pressure you exacted on it and how much pus came out. it may also swell just a little(still not as much as the tiny bump which it was before the extraction. dont worry. this red dot is nothing serious but irritated skin and will fade away sooner than later. took a week for me.

also remember that there may be a stubborn zit that just wont break. let it be. if you fail to extract it in one or two goes, then dont bother with it. wait a few days den try again. if you fail to break it but keep on trying at the same time and it gets hurt then be ready for a fully inflamed pimple FOR SURE.

if anyone has any questions or any worries about what i just suggested, then feel free to ask your queries, doubts and worries to me here. i may be wrong, but hey! it worked wonders for me!

I have these bumps too. I used to get them just on my chin and they would go away after a few weeks but they have been persisting for a few months now and have been spreading up my cheeks. Some of them end up turning into something bigger. I was also wondering if it may be a sugar sensitivity or maybe stress? I think I am going to try a glycolic peel. Any suggestions?
