I recently went to my dermatologist for my annual skin exam and asked about treatment options for my scars, for the first time she actually made some recommendations outside of microneedling with prp (which I had done once in 2019 and again in 2020) or maybe 2018 & 2019) and I'm looking for advice. I'm absolutely planning to get subcision with Redensity ($950) (I had subcision around 10 years ago I think with Dr. Novak and he didn't use filler and it made a very subtle difference, maybe 10%), but everything I read seems to say adding filler makes a big difference, so I'm sold on that.
Where I'm not sure what to do is the additional treatment, again she offered microneedling with prp (which I now realize if I do, I need to do a few sessions closer together), Tixel, Moxi or Fraxel. Fraxel is the most expensive ($1800) but possibly would only need one treatment and from photos seems to be the best option, Moxi is a close second in cost ($1500) but I'm not too familiar with it, however the price listed included BBL Hero as well and she scratched that part off, so it might be cheaper without the BBL, Microneedling with prp ($1000) and then Tixel which I'm also not too familiar with($700-1400 and I think that is multiple treatments).
I obviously would like to do the most cost effective option, but also it would be great to not have to do more treatments again any time soon.
About me, I'm in my 40s so I'm losing collagen/fat from my face, I think my skin type would be III or IV, closer to IV, I have rolling and boxcar scars, I've used retin-a on and off for years, my skin started scaring as a teen, I did acutane in my late teens after trying a bunch of other options and that has all but cleared me of acne, but I've been left with the scars and cannot get over them. I am a little scared about lasers, but I kind of feel like it's my only hope. What do you think my best option would be?
anything but a fully ablative laser is quite useless, especially for rolling scars. The problem lies beneath the skin, I can quote a doctor as saying lasers dont lift skin. They are for softening edges of boxcars and evening out skin after it has been lifted. The Subcision suction method is the only thing Ive seen consistently reported as useful for addressing rolling scars. The same study that described that also recommended dermarolling and suction if you cant afford subcision. But seriously avoid laser and while youre at it avoid this doc trying to sell you lasers to fix rolling scars. She just wants your money, Ive been through it trust me.
@samedeepwaterasyou I've seen this doctor as my regular derm for a number of years now and this is the first time she's even offered lasers as an option, like I said normally she just has offered microneedling with prp and I'm the one that keeps asking about other options. I've seen other folks have good outcomes with lasers so I trust her. I'm just wondering should I book the subcision with filler and another treatment at the same time or just start with the subcision with filler and see how that goes and then decide in a couple months if I do another treatment.
