Hello everyone,

I scheduled two excisions along my left and right jawline today with Dr. Tanveer Janjua. The waiting list is very long (7 months) so I wont have surgery til October and the price wasnt too easy either. Has anyone had experience with him? His youtube videos are very informative and he was the only provider out of 10+ I contacted willing to take on my scars. First 3 pics are the left side which is the more severe side and last pic is the right side which is less severe. I was almost wondering if the right could just be done with subcision and filler but hes planning to excise it using an irregular S-shaped excision.

This will be super interesting to follow along with. Please post your progress when you get this done.

Also, can you share a bit more about the procedure he's planning? Excision and then grafting? What type of excision?

And...yeah I get what you're saying about maybe just doing subcision plus filler. The less invasive you can go sometimes the better just because it's better to do less because less can go wrong type of thing. You have until October, so if I were you, I'd go see another 2 docs and get their opinion on what you should do. Don't tell them anything up front. Just see what they recommend. If everyone recommends the same thing, well, there you go. But if you get various opinions, that will educate you further on what might be possible.

The procedure is call irregular S-shaped excision. He said its something not in the literature and he started doing recently. I dont believe grafting would be helpful and would just make it worse. Skin flaps transfer healthy tissue/fat to the excised area anyways. Ive consulted with 2 dermatologic surgeons, a local one who tried to tell me 5 sessions of fraxel laser would help (lol) and Mark Taylor who said the taylor liberator wouldnt work on these scars and recommended I see a plastic surgeon for excision. Both of them said subcision isnt recommended in the mandibular region because of potential nerve damage. Ive consulted with about 5 local facial plastic/plastic surgeons who have all either ghosted me or straight up told me they couldnt do it. I even paid for one surgeon to excise the scars and the day I showed up said he couldnt do it lol. As far as Im concerned Janjua is the only surgeon with enough expertise I could find in the U.S. to potentially correct these scars (if anyone has other suggestions Id be open to consult with them). As much as Id like to start with less it seems given the severity and area the scars are located excision is the only path I can take. The plan is excision then resurfx laser to blend the surgical scars.

The most frustrating thing really is having to wait 7 months to get treatment. Seems like every other surgeon just wants to focus on nose jobs or push lasers for money 🙁

Well it sounds like you have done a lot of looking into this, which is good. It's good you are proceeding carefully and staying your own advocate. It's YOUR face, not anyone else's. Only do what feels right and comfortable to you.

Update: got the appointment moved to early July.

Has he shown you before and afters? Has he given any details on how many of these procedures he performs weekly, monthly? How much is he charging you? Ive never heard of him on these forums but he seems like a ENT doc which raises red flags to me

Hey. I got a large excision on my face with Janjua recently, december of 2022. Look at my forum called acne scar journey 2017-2022 by my former account.

Janjua is great. I am very happy with my procedure with him and will post pics, Im just a bit busy with grad school.

Ask me anything.

He is certified by the Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, which is like a step under the Board of Plastic Surgery, but when it comes to scar revisions Im not sure theres a Dr. in the country that does more than him. Hes got thousands of followers on YouTube for it.

ENT docs do raise flags to me, and he uses techniques that he seems to invent on his own (S shape + he told me he uses permanent sutures underneath the skin, and raises the scar like a speed bump) but I would give him a shot at least, scar revisions seem to be his specialty.
