I recently did my consultation and scheduled my first appointment.
I have moderate acne scars from what the consultant (Mary) says based on the pictures I sent.
I was told to do Phenol Cross, Subcision, and something called Erbium (They call this the Trio package).
Apparently not needing fillers is what the consultant advises.

During my consultations, I asked the below questions and these were the responses:

  • Q1
    • My Question: If I do subcision without filler, won't it just re-tether?
    • Consultant's Answer: "Your scars aren't deep and this will not be an issue. You are also young and the Erbium treatment will prevent the re-tethering.
  • Q2
    • My Question: What is the risk of skin sagging with subcision?
    • Consultant's Answer: "You will not have skin sagging since you are young and Dr. Rullan has a long and good track record of performed subcisions. He uses cannula as well".
  • Q3
    • My Question: In a rough ball park range, what is an expected percentage of improvement on average from 1 session with this combination?
    • Consultant's Answer: "Most people see about 15-20% improvement. Based on your skin and skin type, I'd say you will yield greater improvements off just one session".
  • Q4
    • My Question: A lot of my acne scar research has pointed me to Dr. Rullan. However, I also see a lot of discussions saying he is not too skilled in dealing with POC skin.
    • Consultant's Answer: "Dr. Rullan works with POC skin types all the time with a shading level of 3-4. Most our customers are actually Asian with your skin type so rest assured".

I've already booked my appointment and put my deposit down. Of course I'm still worried but know the only way to know if the treatment works is to just do it.
My ultimate biggest fear is negative results. It's a lot of money to invest. I don't want my investment to make me feel worse. If I'm putting large sums of money into a treatment, I expect positive results (whether a little or a lot). Of course, I know acne scarring is not a one-time fix. I just want at least a high chance of seeing some kind of improvement. Something that makes me go "Was spending $2500 worth it? yes!". End of the day, I'd rather have a hole in my wallet than negative results from the treatment; yeah negative results are my biggest concern.

So what I am wondering is, for people who are familiar with the above treatments, is the consultant's answer accurate / truthful?
For people who have gone to Dr. Rullan, would you say your experience was positive/negative? Would you say you saw improvement (any percentage) after a single session? Were any of you happy with the single session treatment?

My plan is to try one session. Depending on the results, I may or may not go again. I am in no ways looking for perfect skin. I'm just looking for %20-40 improvement. Mainly just concerned with texturing. But yeah, all my googling points me to Dr. Rullan as one of the best in California... but a lot of other reviews also show quite some negative experiences. Please let me know. Thanks!
