BE CAUTIOUS WITH TCA

Well, after using a pretty potent 15% tca and layering for spot peels, I took the plunge and ordered some supposed 100% strength to do cross. I planned on first diluting to 50% then working up to a higher strength cross on a few scars. OMG. First of all since I had built up a slight resistance to the tca from layering the 15%. I first tried diluting and felt nothing, no sting, nothing. I tried it on a little scar by my ear so if it was disasterous, not a huge deal for me. Anyway, decided to do it again full strength. Spilled a bit on the counter while pouring from the majorly cheap plastic bottle it was shipped in. Dabbed it up with the generous 3 cotton balls they sent with it. Okay to make a long story short, I decided to do another scar since I think I can tolerate this stuff full strength since I am not feeling much stinging. I reached for another cotton ball with some mild astringent to clean an area and YIKES, I grabbed the one with the full strenth tca and feel my skin burning. It takes like 3 seconds for me to realize this was not the toner but the cotton ball with the tca and toner mixed with it. OK, OK, within around 5 seconds I grabbed the neutralizer (baking soda) mix it with water and rub, rub, rub. SCARED me so my warnings. I am not a first time TCA user but this was really stupid of me and I could have really burnt my skin badly. In either case, I tried a mild cross. I'm not sure if I did it right but just wanted to make a point to be careful. Hopefully, I can get some good results with the tca. I am considering, a consult with a plastic surgeon for one larger scar on my face. I have others which I think I could improve upon but this larger one is around 3 to 4 times larger than any others and I AM SO TIRED OF IT. "SCAR REVISION" COULD BE IN MY FUTURE. Felt the need to vent here. Peace.

OMG tryingtoimprove,

That was really a lucky run for you. This is why it's a good idea to always throw away immediately any used materials right after application. This is why I don't want to try any chemical peeling without a pro. Knowing how clumsy I can be AND impatient, I know I'll either end up putting on too much or spilling something somewhere I'm not supposed to. I once ended up with a string of Retin A in my arm pits....DON'T EVEN ASK HOW THE HELL DID THAT HAPPEN!

~Lol! That will truly remain a mystery within mysteries.

im gonna use 50% soon, but 100 seems crazy. anyway, i've done a 25% peel, and layered it, and it peeled well. I love tca peels, and i love that you can do them at home and not have to pay a dermatologist lots of money to do.

btw, whats the difference between home peels and peels at the docs?

anyway, i've had great results with tca peels. it takes patients, and time, but i can definately say it helped a good deal. peace.

Hi, I don't think the tca I ordered was truely 100% since I didn't get any redness with the cross or frosting. It may be closer to a 25-45%. I may try it for a spot peel. When I accidently picked up the wrong cotton ball and went over my face with it, however, it really stung quickly but I'm sure it couldn't be 100% since I tried the cross again last night and again, it didn't do anything. :( I think I only paid around 20.00 for it but I wish I knew the real percentage. I have some 15% which seems pretty strong. I may dilute the new (supposedly 100%) a bit and try a spot peel by my ear to closer determine it's strength. Oh well. I did go to a place around 3-4 years ago for a few microderms. She said she sometimes performs an invasive "powerpeel" which sometimes produces a bit of blood. The powerpeel I had at the laser clinic did not and I may call up the lady to learn more. I hate to do anything stupid which may damage my skin but gosh it would be so nice to see some quicker results. I can live with imperfections but it seems like there has to be something besides drastic measures (dermabrasion) which will bring some good results. I suppose I could order more tca from another place. :(

Still like the smoothbeam but feel I need something more invasive to go with it. Peace.

how deep did you say your scars were? How old?

Well, I had my cheeks dermabraded by a PS around 13-14 years ago. I had just one deep but smaller icepick on my cheek. I really don't know how old the other scars are but when my face was first dermabraded, 13 years or so ago, I had like zero scars on my left cheek and mainly just the one on my right. So one very old revised scar, and quite a few shallow, smaller newer than 13 years scars. :eh:

Hey Guys,

Please don't use TCA in high strengths...I used a 50% peel years ago and it totally burned my face, and made things much worse. Be really cautious, and always test another area first and wait a few days to see the reaction...like the skin in the fold of your arm or under your chin. And be really careful who you order from over the internet. Proceed with extreme caution.
